Style Watch: American Horror Story

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Everyone’s favorite show—American Horror Story—has returned for its third season. Unlike the past two seasons this is a young and mostly female cast, with the storyline centered around a school for teenage witches located in New Orleans.

As many fans of the show know, the cast features many familiar faces from previous AHS seasons, along with some notable newcomers—Emma Roberts and Kathy Bates for example. One of the best parts of this season—aside from the crazy spells and powers these witches possess —is the fashion. Unlike the other two seasons, Coven is able to make style an aspect of the show due to the seasons’ nature.

Here are some AHS inspired looks and pieces. Don’t forget the new rule—on Wednesdays we wear black.

Field Trip Outfit: In Episode 1, “Bitchcraft,” Fiona (Jessica Lange) takes the young witches out for a field trip through New Orleans. The outfits were dark and fabulous.

Nasty Gal’s Stevie Wood Hat in Black ($30) is almost the exact hat a few of the witches were wearing. When paired with this black Skater Dress from Urban Outfitters ($59) and either the Biker-Chick Cutout Booties from Forever 21 ($43) or the Cosmo Cutout Booties from Nasty Gal ($140), you’ve got the look the young witches rocked on their field trip.

TV Trailer Outfit: Another popular look was the outfits worn in the American Horror Story: Coven TV spot and teaser. Luckily, you can use the same hat as the field trip outfit.

This Shirred High Collar Blouse from Forever 21 ($14) is an inexpensive and spot-on choice for the top. The top would look great tucked into this Knit Circle Skirt from Urban Outfitters ($32). Some heeled booties would be the perfect finish to this outfit, much like these Standout Faux Leather Booties from Forever 21 ($40).

Each article of clothing could be mixed with one another to make even more AHS inspired outfits. When you’re trying to make the perfect Coven outfit just remember you’ll need one color to complete it—black.
