The tennis genes seem to run strong in the Sharapova family. Freshman Dasha Sharapova from Bradenton, Florida currently plays for SMU’s woman’s tennis team and is the younger cousin of Russian professional tennis player, Maria Sharapova. Dasha is a force on the tennis team, posting a 6-5 record for singles and an 8-3 overall mark in doubles for the fall tournament season.

How long have you been playing tennis and what do you love most about the sport?

I have been playing tennis since I was five years old and what I love most about the sport is how competitive it is and how much I get to travel all over the world for it.

Who has been your biggest inspiration in the sport?

My biggest inspirations in the sport would have to be Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, just because they are both so classy and amazing at what they do.

What made you choose to attend SMU?

I decided to attend SMU because of the great tennis program here, amazing team and coaching staff. Also being in a great city like Dallas offers many opportunities.

What has been your favorite experience in college so far?

My favorite experience so far has definitely been just bonding with my teammates and meeting so many amazing people who are a part of this school.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Hopefully playing on the professional tour!

Do you have any other special talents besides playing tennis?
