Best Apartment Complexes to Live In

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

It’s that time of the year again, when you’ve got to decide where you’re going to call home the next semester.  It’s a tough decision, with so many factors to consider:  Is the pool nice?  Who else is going to be living there?  Can you walk to campus?  Is there a gym?  Are there restaurants nearby?  It’s a tough decision, but HerCampus is here to help make the decision a little easier!

Here are three popular apartment complexes for SMU students:

The BLVD

Located within walking distance of Barley House, Homebar, Twisted Root, and Torchy’s (and campus if you’re feeling really energetic), this apartment complex is a popular choice for many of SMU’s students.  It’s often referred to it as the off-campus dorm, mainly because there are very few BLVD residents who aren’t students.  Built extremely recently, the rooms are polished and the appliances and facilities very modern.  If you haven’t burned enough calories walking up the stairs to your apartment because the elevator is broken (again), there’s a gym downstairs (people-watching on SMU boulevard while on the elliptical anyone?).  If you’re feeling stressed, take a load off and relax by the pool on the roof.

The Standard

A short drive from campus, the Standard is another popular choice for students living off campus.  The resort-style pool is one of the best and amazing for those hot summer days when you just need to relax (I can’t emphasize how great this pool is enough, it’s like a little piece of Cabo in Texas).  The rooms are spacious, and even though it’s a large complex, it’s more homey and personable than some of the others in the area.  There’s a gym and meeting room available for use, and

Rosedale

The apartments off Rosedale are a convenient walk from campus, saving you from the heartache of frantically searching for a nonexistent parking space in the garages.  Not only that, but they’re cute and cozy, providing a much more homey feeling than the larger apartment complexes.  The downside? The gym and the falls are a very long walk across campus, so plan on burning some calories on your way over there.

Still overwhelmed?  Keep researching, and be sure to ask around to see what others have to say about where you’re thinking about living.  There’s nothing worse than signing your lease and realizing you don’t li
