How To Get the Most Out of Pumpkin Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

The Fall season is finally here, with the brisk cold air and the sunsets of changing leaves!

It’s officially the time of year to pull out your sweaters and booties, throw a scarf on, and get cozy with a hot cup of coffee, or if you are like me, a pumpkin spice latte. With the beginning of apple picking, cider, and donut season comes the season for pumpkins. Fall is the time for everything pumpkin- whether used for food or not they are incredibly enjoyable. Uses for natural pumpkins are extensive, for example, when you purchase a pumpkin, you can cut the top off and scrape out the innards. Separate the seeds, wash them, and put them on a cookie pan with some salt and bake them. They make a great salty snack!

From there you can either make your hollow pumpkin into a silly or haunting Jack-O-Lantern, or you can cut it into quarters and make pumpkin puree. You can use this puree in basically anything from pie, to lattes, to sugar scrubs! My favorite is pumpkin chocolate chip bread, it’s soft and sweet but also hearty, exactly what fall should taste like.

So go buy yourself a pumpkin and make everything with it! Or go buy pumpkin puree in your nearest grocery store.
