Happy Birthday HerCampus SFA.
Started in Decemeber 2010 by Campus Celebrity, Jessika Davidson, the HerCampus branch of SFA was created.
The purpose of the HerCampus™ organization is to provide an online hub for women by providing content that is both a resource and a source of entertainment, highlighting campus news, events, interesting students, faculty, alumni, campus photos, and fashion and lifestyle content specifically tailored for women.
Founded by Stephanie Kaplan and fellow Harvard undergraduates Windsor Hanger and Annie Wang after winning Harvard’s business plan competition, HerCampus™ serves as an online hotspot for everything college women need to know about life on campus. The site features articles on Style, Health, Love, Life, Career and much more, updated on a daily basis and supplemented by campus-specific content from 200+ colleges and universities across the country.
Written entirely by college journalists, Her Campus™ highlights the best in student journalism while filling the critical hole in the media marketplace that responds directly to the needs of college women. HerCampus™ writers have been offered jobs and internships at many of the nation’s top publications including Glamour, Vogue, InStyle, Lucky, O magazine, MTV, The Washington Post, and Women’s Wear Daily, among others.
Since launching in September of 2009, HerCampus™ has been featured in The New York Times, Yahoo Finance, AOL Money College, CNN Money, CBS MoneyWatch, Business Insider, The Boston Globe, U.S. News & World Report, and on ABC News Now and Fox25 News, among others. Its founders, Kaplan, Hanger, and Wang were all named to Inc. Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Coolest Young Entrepreneurs, Glamour Magazine’s 20 Amazing Young Women, and The Boston Globe’s 25 Most Stylish Bostonians. In October 2001, Her Campus was named a 50K Gold Winner and “Best All-Around Team” in MassChallenge, the world’s largest startup competition.
HerCampus™ SFA is currently ran by editor and social media manager, Kayla Borens accompanied by staff writers Destinee Hollis and Aliysa Damon, who also serves as photographer for the chapter. Kayla Borens is a senior from Stephen F Austin State University pursuing a degree in Public Communications. She has been selected as a recipient for the 2012 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and graduate of Kilgore Junior College. To improve her writing skills and network with more people, Kayla began to work with HerCampus ™. Aliysa Damon is a sophomore majoring in Early Childhood Education from Fort Worth, TX. She became interested in HerCampus™ due to her journalism major background and joined to better my writing and interviewing skills. “It offers great benefits to your job resume as well, so it’s basically a win-win situation.” Destinee Hollis is a sophomore majoring in Business from Dallas, TX. She wanted to become involved with HerCampus™ to expand her writing skills, as well as, meet new people.
