With May and graduation fast approaching, seniors are planning for the next steps after undergrad. One of those seniors is the hard-working, publicity professional Tiffany Knighten.
In her past four years at Seton Hall, Tiffany has grabbed life by the horns and taken advantage of every opportunity Seton Hall had to offer. Currently, she is busy as president of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and is an assistant for the Social Media Activation and Earned Media section of Viacom’s Music & Entertainment. Even with her busy schedule, she found time to sit down and have a chat.
When asked why she chose Seton Hall University, she said that knew she wanted to study communications and be at a school near New York City.
“New York is a media mecca and I wanted to be where all the opportunities were.”
Since her time at Seton Hall, she has interned for Seton Hall’s own Media Relations department, 5W Public Relations Agency, Burson & Marsteller, VH1 and for Viacom Corporate this past summer.
If you are in the communications field at Seton Hall, you’ll find Tiffany running around Fahy getting everything prepared for PRSSA and Pirate PR meetings. As president she oversees PRSSA and motivates her entire e-board and members.
“My job as president is to motivate my team and to never make them feel like I am the only one in charge. My role is to uplift the other e-board members and make sure everyone has everything they need to be successful.”
Tiffany has learned and grown a tremendous amount since her freshman year, which also holds her favorite memory of her first ROPE event. For those that don’t know, ROPE is an annual banquet that showcases the communications department’s student accomplishments through the year. Tiffany recalled how that event locked in her love for the public relations department and was inspired to push herself to take advantage of what Seton Hall had to offer.
So what is going to happen in the next chapter for Tiffany?
“Damn. I guess the next chapter is to perfect my craft and better myself. I plan on staying close to the program and giving mentorship that I was given.”
Tiffany also had wise advice to the freshmen class.
“There is plenty of time to do everything. There’s no need to stress yourself out and enjoy the next four years at SHU.”
As we wrapped up the interview, we asked Tiffany what was her favorite quote to live by.
“No sitting at the table if you’re bringing nothing to it,” she added.
Tiffany said if you want to be relevant, you need to be involved and make your mark.
Well, in that case Tiffany brings a lot to the table.
