5 Ways to Minimize Stress

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

It’s that time of year again! Fall semester is here and things are about to get hectic, but what if there was a way to minimize the chaos? Stress is, of course, inevitable (it is college after all), but aren’t we all here to succeed and find a greater purpose in life? I know I am. Even though that’s what motivates me, I still get stressed out just like any other college student. Listed below are 5 tried-and-true techniques to minimize stress. Hey, maybe this will even be an easy semester if you follow these “guidelines.”

1. Make sure you have the right materials

Even though we’re in week 4 of classes, you can still follow this first tip! Whether you have a special folder, notebook, or pencil, these special office items are sure to start you off on the right foot. Plus, if you have the right pen or pencil, the writing experience in general is sure to be better. In fact, you might even have some fun (as much fun as you can have while taking notes that is)!

2. Take time to visit and introduce yourself to teachers

Tried and true rule number two! Try to make time to visit with your teachers to introduce yourself and get to know them better. Knowing your teachers and your teachers knowing you, will probably help if you ever get stuck in a jam with your grade. If you can talk to your teacher, you might just be able to improve your grade!

3. Study

Along with getting to know your teachers, it also a good idea to study! And I do mean study, not sitting on your phone with your textbook open in front of you. Take the time to read the chapters and make a study guide for each test. It really does make it easier to pass. And if you don’t think it is worth it now to make a study guide, it will come in handy when you have to study 24 chapters for your final.

4. Hang out with friends

Even if most of your time is used to study, you still need to make time for socializing. Socializing with friends helps you build connections and keep you happy, especially if you don’t like to be alone. Try to have lunch together, go to a late night event on campus, or just go for a walk or jog together either on campus or at the gym. If you can’t physically see your friends, at least give them a text or call once in a while. After all, bonding time is one of the most important keys to keeping and maintaining friendships.

5. Take time for yourself

Along with taking to time to hang with friends, it is also important to take time for yourself. Some ways to do this include: binge watching your favorite Netflix show, taking a walk or going out and doing something you enjoy! Whatever your hobby is, you should try to keep it up throughout the year because it’s a great way to relieve stress!

After following these 5 tips, things should get easier for you and become less stressful. I know these 5 tips really help me out every semester! Good luck!
