Downtown State College Spring Fashion Report

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Warm weather is finally making its way to Happy Valley. Long days full of sunshine and blue skies mean that it’s time to shed your winter garb and break out your spring wardrobe. So pull out those sundresses and high-waisted shorts and add some pieces for a new look. You know what that means… shopping! Here’s a report of Downtown State College boutiques and their must-have items for spring:

Shop 1: METRO

Metro is your one-stop shop. It has outfits for day and night. Here are a couple pieces to try out:

1. Eyelet Top by Signature 8 – $48

*available in teal or white

This top is very versatile, with just enough detail to make it the centerpiece of any outfit. You can also mix it with other fun pieces without becoming overwhelming.

Pair it with a lightly destroyed pair of cropped jeans and sandals or a cute kimono and necklace. This outfit is perfect for a warm spring day, whether you’re going to class or just hanging around with your friends on a weekend.

2. Denim shirt by Style – $48

This denim shirt is a great basic piece that can be paired with almost anything. It would look great with a printed tank, black leggings and your favorite pair of Vans. A more dressy option is to pair this shirt with a flowy maxi skirt and a neutral tank, and top it off with a cute pair of flats or heels.

3. Patterned shorts by Moon – $48

Everyone needs a pair of patterned shorts for summer. These shorts are festive, fun and can be paired with a black kimono or a light-weight cardigan and a neutral tank top.

Store 2: Blue I.V. Boutique

Blue I.V. has two stores, one located on Beaver Ave. and one on College Ave. They’re known for their unique pieces and great prices. Here are a few fantastic finds:

1. Lacy tank – $32,  necklace – $25

The boutique showcases this necklace and top combo on its wall and we agreed the idea is super cute. You can wear this top with a pair of skinny jeans and sandals for an everyday look or try a black pencil skirt and heels for when you’re going out. There are a variety of color choices available for both the necklace and the top.

2. Striped Skirt by Wishlist – $32

Black Crop Top – $26

Qupid shoes – $40

This outfit is a great statement for a night out on the town. You can wear this to the bars or out to a party with your friends. Add a red lip as the cherry on top of this fab outfit (pun intended).

Store 3: People’s Nation

People’s Nation is a relatively new store that has lots of options for every style. Whether you’re looking for the Boho style or something fun for going out, there really is something for nearly every occasion. Here are some of our picks:

1. Tan Kimono by Umgee – $48, White blouse – $48

These pieces are great for a simple day look. To finish the outfit, pair it with jeans and a pair of sandals or flats. You can also add some gold jewelry to dress it up for brunch.

2. Printed pants by Fashion Fuse – $48, Black crop top – $28

This outfit is perfect for a girl’s night out on the town. Wear it with some heels and your favorite statement jewelry and you’ll be turning heads.

Store 4: Connections

Connections is located on Allen St. next to Jersey Mikes and Abercrombie. It has clothes from well-known brands like Free People and Guess. Below are some of HC PSU’s favorite pieces:

1. Dreamcatcher tank by Bear Dance – $30

This dreamcatcher tank is a very whimsical and versatile choice for casual days. Connections offers a few variations of this top, so you’re sure to find one that suits your taste. This tank works perfectly with your favorite pair of destroyed cropped jeans or shorts and sandals.

2. Black Dress by Free People – $110

This dress is a bit of a splurge, but this small investment is sure to become your go-to LBD for every occasion. It can be worn by itself with a pair of heels for a night out at the bars, or dress it up with some statement jewelry and a cardigan for a nice get together for lunch.

Who knew there were so many great options right here in State College? Now you don’t have to wait until you go back home to revamp your wardrobe. The best part? Your wallet will be as happy as you are!

Happy spring shopping, collegiettes!
