6 Valentine’s Day Date Ideas in Pittsburgh

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, which means you need to think of a special way to spend it with your significant other. In a city as lively as Pittsburgh, there’s plenty of options to choose from. Here are six date ideas to celebrate your Valentine’s Day this year!

1. Valentine’s On Ice

Head on over to the Schenley Park skating rink for a special couples’ skate under the stars. For people 18 and older, you can skate all night to music on the ice, then take a break inside and enjoy some hot beverages. The perks? The first 200 couples receive a complimentary rose and assorted chocolates. The two of you can also get a keepsake photo and have the chance to compete in the “Go for the Heart” puck shooting contest.

When: Sunday, February 14, 7:00pm-10:00pm

Price: $5 per couple

2. Make-It-Now at the Pittsburgh Glass Center

If you’re looking for something different and creative, this is the perfect date for you. These make-it-now events give you the opportunity to try glassblowing in 20 minutes or less. For a Valentine themed craft you can choose from flowers, fused valentines, and pendants. You can reserve a spot online, but no pre-registration is required.

When: Friday, February 12, 4:00pm-9:00pm

Price: $25-$35, depending on the item you make

3. Bowling at Arsenal Lanes

Bowling? On Valentine’s Day? Yeah! Arsenal Lanes is having a special Valentine’s Day offer, their “Love in the Afternoon” and “Love in the Evening.” This could be a great option for new couples who don’t want to do anything too serious. After 9:00pm, however, only people 21 and over are allowed in.

When: Sunday, February 14, 1:00pm-4:00pm (“Love in the Afternoon”) and 9:00pm-midnight (“Love in the Evening”)

Price: In the afternoon it’s $6 entry with 50 cent games and shoes and 50 cent hot dogs and soda. In the evening it’s $8 all you can bowl with a DJ and prizes.

4. Midnight Pink Floyd Laser Show

Hosted at the Buhl Planetarium, fans of Pink Floyd and fans of lasers alike can enjoy a tasteful mix of Pink Floyd albums set to a spectacular laser show that fills the dome with liquid skies and digital imagery. This isn’t specific for Valentine’s Day, though. In fact, they have this every week of February, but everything doesn’t have to be pink and hearts. Plus, this is a great option if you or your SO has to work at night.

When: Friday, February 12- February 13 12:00am-1:00am

Price: $8 for non-members

5. Make Dinner

Everyone goes out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, so the restaurants might be overcrowded and loud and they could run out of food. If you want a low-key date to just spend time with your SO, consider making them dinner. You won’t be limited to something a certain restaurant has to offer, and you can set your own atmosphere.

6. Phipps Conservatory

What Pittsburgh date list would be complete without Phipps Conservatory making an appearance? While they aren’t hosting any special Valentine’s Day themed events, February 12th is the last day for Phipps’ “Friday Nights of Winter Lights.”  These dazzling light displays are sure to make for a romantic evening for you and your beau!

When: Friday, February 12, 5:00pm-10:00pm

Price: Free with a Pitt ID, $14 for non-Pitt Students, $15 for adults
