5 Ways to Beat the Back to School Slump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OK State chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you were excited to get back to school after the long winter break. The first week was fun! It was spent reconnecting with frineds, sitting through five minute syllabus presentations, and actually trying to look decent for class. But now that we’re almost a month into the semester, it’s like a fog has stretched across campus. Classes are being slept through, the messy bun has made a reappearance, and Red Bull consumption is rising again. Here’s some timps on how to beat the back to school slump and kick this semester in the butt!

1. SLEEP! I know everyone thinks that they can go back to their ways of all-nighters and energy drinks, but that’s the easiest way to get yourself into a cycle of all-day naps and zero productivity. Trust me on this one. Do your best to get a full nights sleep, every night.

2. Take a trip! Nothing breaks up the monotony of school like a weekend spent in Oklahoma City or even a day in Tulsa with friends.

3. Get a planner (and keep it)! The second part of that statement is the most crucial and the most difficult. Know when your tests are and when things are due, and get started on them early. Procrastination is one of the hardest things to overcome as a college student, and it causes lots of unnecessary stress and leads to lack of sleep (see tip #1 for reasons why sleep is important). Check out this article for a cute planner!

4. Try new things! Go rock climbing at the Colvin (Thursdays are ladies only from 7-9), or get involved with a new group on campus! Stay involved and have fun, being at a university is about so much more than just going to class (but you should do that too).

5. Go to more sporting events! Support our basketball teams and wrestling in the GIA, and watch our nationally ranked tennis teams kick butt (there’s usually free food at tennis matches too).

Hopefully you’ve taken some of these tips to heart, or maybe you’re just reading this article out of procrastination. Either way, have a great semester and Go Pokes! All images taken from the Her Campus at Oklahoma State Pinterest.
