HC NYU What are your activities and interests?JH I am a HUGE football fan. I grew up with two older brothers who played football through college so it has become a large part of my life. In my opinion, Sundays were made for NFL games, specifically the Dallas Cowboys. I also grew up near the beach so anything involving sand and the ocean is an interest of mine. Additionally, I have the world’s cutest golden retriever so playing with her is another activity I enjoy, particularly at the beach!

HC NYU What are your future goal and aspirations?JH I am currently studying nursing and my dream job is to be a pediatric oncology nurse. I’ve wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember and these kids have such resilience and will to fight, it makes being their nurse inspiring and rewarding.

HC NYU Who do you look to for inspiration?JH I often look to my brothers for inspiration. I have always looked up to them and had the upmost respect for their drive and character.  They have consistently been there for me since I was little and have always had my back. I am able to follow my dreams fearlessly, knowing that I am blessed with the support of my two greatest inspirations.

HC NYU Which qualities would you find admirable?JH I find honesty, loyalty, determination, and passion to be extremely admirable qualities. People who follow their dreams with persistence and are honest and loyal to those supporting them, are exceptionally commendable in my eyes.

HC NYU Are you currently working on any projects that you’re proud of?JH I am currently very proud of the NYU Greek Community for their efforts with NYDM and The B+ Foundation. NYDM is an event which I have dedicated countless amount of hours to over the past two years. What makes me the most proud about this project, is the support and enthusiasm that the NYU Fraternity and Sorority Community has shown. To see the community I love rally around something I am so passionate about makes me truly proud to be a part of both this project and community.

HC NYU How did you come to volunteer for NYDM?JH I became involved with NYDM last year when my best friend, Sarah, started the event. I joined the executive board under the position of B+ Hero Relations Chair. Through this position I helped to match sororities and fraternities on campus with B+ Heroes (children with cancer) in the local area. It was the perfect position for me as I was able to connect students to something I cared about very deeply, and I had the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the coolest, bravest kids I know! Following the very successful first NYDM, I knew I wanted to be more involved so I applied for Executive Director and here I am today!

HC NYU What particularly about the cause draws you to it?JH  I was first introduced to the cause when I was a freshman in college and Joe McDonough came to speak at my sorority chapter meeting. I remember thinking “wow, what a life Andrew must have lived and what a tremendous person Andrew must have been to be honored and celebrated across the nation, by people whom he never met.” I knew immediately that this was the foundation I wanted to support. I have always been drawn to childhood cancer but when I was introduced to The B+ Foundation and Andrew, I knew this cause was special and something I wanted to be involved in.
