Tips & Tricks to Surviving Notts Exam Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

With exam season fast approaching, most people are beginning to knuckle down and plan the best use of their time, from where to revise to where to relax. Here are some tips and tricks for making the coming month bearable!

Surviving Hallward

Unless stressful, hot environments get you motivated to revise or write essays like there’s not tomorrow, then don’t venture into Hallward library at this time of year. The desks are presided over by territorial work beasts who arrive at 5am to claim a spot and woe betide anyone who leaves themselves logged into a computer while they go to grab a coffee…

There are many other quiet places to set up and work if you get cabin fever being stuck in your room all day! Apart from other libraries on the campuses, buildings such as Trent have peaceful, well ventilated study rooms with an abundance of desk space and computers!

Parks for Procrastination

Maybe you particularly enjoy being sat staring mindlessly at a textbook all day, but if you need some time out and fresh air to stimulate and motivate then you’re at the right uni! While Lenton offers two parks perfect for tossing a ball around, if you’re on campus then take some time to stroll around the lake and enjoy the calming effects of the water lapping on the shore or enjoy a trip out onto the lake from May onwards!

If you’re looking for a place to whisk you away from the city or campus bubble, then take a trip to Wollaton Park which offers a huge lake and expansive grounds perfect for losing yourself for a couple of hours and brushing aside all memories of exams and coursework.

Taking a night off

If you’ve been working your pants off all day and think you deserve a night off, then why not treat yourself to a few nice drinks or a meal out with friends in order to truly relax and let your hair down without taking it too far and ending up spending a valuable revision day with your head in a toilet… A few places even offer student or a 2-4-1 deal, keeping the night cheap and cheerful! If you’re in need of inspiration, then here’s some ideas that might take your fancy for places to eat and drink…

Get those Endorphins Pumping!

Sometimes the only way to make yourself feel better both mentally and physically is to take an exercise break, whether it be indoors or out! Nottingham’s campuses are all home to great gym facilities, or if being a gym bunny isn’t your thing, there are fun fitness classes that run every day, as well as a pool on University Park Campus for a good soak and a swim! A healthy body = a healthy mind and therefore a successful exam period!
