Fun Spring Dates And Outfits To Match!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Spring is in the air and we all know what that means: romance.  While you may have spent the chilly winter days cozied up inside with your man, the time has come to shave those legs and let them see some sun.  With a new season comes new fashion, and this spring is coming in strong with bright colors, sweet pastels, retro silhouettes and lots of skin.  Strike a balance between current and classic with these four spring date outfit ideas:

1.  A Ritzy Night On the Town

When your date decides to take you out for a “just because” dinner-for-two, put a twist on a fashion staple: turn your LBD into a LWD (little white dress).  A ruched white dress in a classic silhouette is timeless, while an open back creates a sexy surprise, unexpected for such an innocent color.  Add a statement necklace in a bright spring hue to bring both warmth and focus towards your face.  Slip on nude pumps to elongate your legs, throw your make-up essentials for post-date touch-ups in a pretty pastel clutch, and you’re ready to go!  Careful not to spill!

2.  A Picnic at the Park or Shopping in the City

For a casual date of strolling the city streets or lounging on a blanket in the park, pick a vintage inspired dress with a bold floral pattern.  The retro silhouette accentuates all the right places, while the saturated spring colors keep your look on trend.  Cinch your waist with a braided belt and throw on simple espadrilles to keep the look from appearing too busy.  Add on feminine pieces like dainty leaf earrings and stackable gold rings to continue the girly theme.  If you’re craving some edge, top the dress with a bright colored blazer.  A creamy sorbet-yellow bag is the perfect accessory to complete this ultra-feminine look.

3.  An Outdoor Concert

Surprise your date by taking them to one of the many free concerts in Millennium Park.  Stand out in the crowd with a 50s-inspired cropped bra top in a bold pattern (large floral prints are big this season).  To avoid exposing too much skin, pair it with dark wash high-waisted shorts. Slip on some neon low-top sneakers to protect your toes from rowdy concertgoers and layer multicolored friendship bracelets with trendy details for some subtle edge.  Another nod to past decade trends, a studded fanny pack provides the perfect balance between utility and fashion.

4.  A Beach Day

Grab your love on a particularly sunny day and head over to the beach to catch some rays and frolic in the waves.  Throw on your favorite bikini— this season, it’s all about mixing both bright colors and bold prints— and top it off with a simple tank dress to keep things low-key.  Add a mixture of charms and roped bracelets for some textured detail.  Pack your beach essentials in a large, bright colored tote, slip on some basic flip flops and classic shades, and you’re ready for a day in the sun!
