5 Things to Do This Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday this year, which means a whole weekend of fun events!

Even if you don’t have your own personal Ryan Gosling, check out the things you can do in Evanston! All events are suitable for couples, roomies, besties and sisters alike. And if nothing else, at least there’s chocolate (just wait to go to CVS until after the big day–all the chocolate will be on sale!)

Concerts

The Chicago Bluegrass and Blues festival is in full swing! Willie Nillie is playing at Evanston SPACE on 1245 Chicago Ave on Friday February 13th, and Ronnie Baker Brooks is playing Valentine’s Day. Tickets are $17-$32.

Chicago Theatre Week

Chicago Theatre Week is February 12th to the 22nd! There are shows ranging from the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (tickets only $12!) at the Patrick O’Malley Theatre in Chicago, to a circus spectacular called Circuscope at the Actor’s Gymanisum in Evanston with tickets at $15.

Restaurants

Take advantage of Valentine’s Day restaurant deals in Evanston! Restaurants like Union Pizzeria and Found Kitchen have a romantic vibe that are sure to please. Feeling a little more adventerous? Travel into Chicago and see where you can get a table. Sometimes the best memories are the ones that aren’t planned!

Bottles & Bottega

Designed for pairs, this painting class allows you to paint a 16×20 canvas and sip some delicious wine. The $35 ticket includes the materials, instruction, aprons and the take-home canvas! All you need to bring is your fave bottle of wine. You have to be 18 or older to enter and 21 or older to drink. The studio is at 1016 Davis St.

Valentine’s Day still isn’t your thing?

If you’d prefer something a little more low-key, check out Fifty Shades of Grey, the ultimate guilty pleasure. I mean, how can you resist Christian Grey’s (err, I mean, Jamie Dornan’s) face?! But no matter which option you chose, be sure to have a happy Valentine’s Day!
