Must Have Desserts This Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and whether you hate it or love it, dessert is the most important part of the day for everyone. Whether you want to make something filled with chocolate to share with your loved one, or need something to comfort you while you drown your sorrows in the most recent Nicholas Sparks movie, there are plenty of options out there. Even if you don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, these delectable treats can be made all year round. So bring out your cooking skills and enjoy these wonderful desserts.

1. Chocolate Covered Strawberries– This is the classic Valentine’s Day treat you see in all the romantic movies and advertisements. I have not met anyone (besides myself) who does not get ecstatic over chocolate covered strawberries. So if you are looking for the perfect treat for a romantic evening, chocolate covered strawberries are definitely your best option. All men (except my bf) please take note and make these for your lady, she will be overly pleased with your gesture.

2. Ultimate Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie Sundae– If you looked at this picture and did not immediately click the link to find the recipe, we can no longer be friends. Having an Anti-Valentine’s Day Party? These brownies would be excellent to share among a group of girls wanting some chocolate to soothe their aching mind or lonely heart. Also these brownies would be amazing every other day of the year as well, but you may have to hit the gym if you decide to go that route.

3. Oreo Truffles – If you have not had these before, stop all that you are doing and make them right now. Seriously, they are so easy and amazing. I have made them for my family’s Christmas party for the past two years and they are always the first dessert to go. This is a great alternate option to chocolate covered strawberries if you aren’t into the whole strawberry thing but want some small chocolate bites to eat.

4. Red Velvet Whoopie Pies – If you are looking for something that does not have chocolate but is Valentine’s Day themed, this is your best option. They look delicious and would be cute to bring to a Valentine’s Day party to share. If you are feeling ambitious, you can even make them in cute little heart shapes.

5. Molten Chocolate Cake– Planning on spending the night sitting on the couch alone watching Rom-Com movies? This recipe is for a single serving of chocolate cake and I can assure you it is very very chocolatey and delicious.

6. Hot Fudge Pie– If you are a fan of pie, this recipe is very simple and yummy. This is my go-to recipe if I am in a mood for pie and it has been approved by friends and boyfriends alike. It is one of the simplest pies to make and definitely worth the minimal effort.

7. Homemade Peanut Butter Cups– I’m not sure if it is even possible to not like peanut butter cups. Chocolate and peanut butter mixed together? Delicious. I’ve made these a few times and still get requests for them from everyone who tried one. If you are looking to show off to everyone that you can indeed cook, go for these.

8. Homemade Girl Scout Thin Mints– Girl Scout cookies are a classic and if you obtain the ability to make them and can do so year round, you will gain so many friends. This year instead of being sad on Valentine’s Day, make these and you will instantly be cheered up. Bonus: these are gluten free!

9. Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Frosting– Feeling stressed this Valentine’s Day? These cupcakes are amazing and will easily make you feel better. I mean, combining cupcakes and cookie dough, what is not to like? Having a single-girls night? This recipe makes quite a few cupcakes so you will have plenty to share the love.

10. Chocolate Covered Bacon Bites– Looking to impress your man this Valentine’s Day? Make him these and he will instantly fall in love with you, guaranteed. But not really, please don’t sue me. If your man does not fall in love with you after you make these for him, he is probably psychotic and you should break up with him, you’re welcome for me helping you discover this early on.
