Back to School, Back to the Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

If your summer was anything like mine, you probably didn’t hit the gym very often, and instead spent time hanging with your friends or working like crazy. Now that we are back at school, it isn’t any easier. Especially when mom isn’t here to make dinner anymore. You are either eating in the dining halls, or, like me, cooking for yourself in your apartment kitchen. Before you know it, all the Easy Mac and Stetson East cookies has started to affect your weight. Don’t worry! There is a solution.

Go to the gym! We are so lucky here at Northeastern to have both Marino and the Badger and Rosen (Squashbusters) facilities. They are open a majority of the time (I feel bad for the employees on the early morning shifts) and offer a variety of different ways to work out.

Marino has a ton of different cardio machines, not to mention a small track on the third floor. Go for a nice jog on the treadmill or bring a book and take a little bike ride. Just going there and moving a little bit will help you start out.

Is lifting more your thing? They have multiple weight machines and two free weight sections. (The one on the third floor can kinda be intimidating as you walk in and see a bunch of big macho guys benching, but more power to you if you choose to go in). They also have mats scattered around for some ab exercises.

Do you go to the gym, but never know what to do? Marino is great and offers really affordable group fitness classes for every level, every day of the week. I have participated every semester that I’ve attended Northeastern, and I’ve always had a good workout. The trainers work hard to help you get the workout you want.

If you aren’t a fan of working out inside, don’t worry. Boston is a great city to explore on a run with some amazing views along the water. Go out and see!

Hi. I am a sophmore studying business with a dual concentration in marketing and management, as well as a minor in sustainable business. Outside of school I have a passion for sports, especially football (Patriots) and hockey (Bruins). I also love to bake, snuggle with my puppy, read and hang out with my friends.
