Ethan Grimmer ’12

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.

Name: Ethan Clark Grimmer
Year: Junior, Class of 2012! I get to graduate right before the end of the world!
Hometown: Mount Airy, NC, Beulaville, NC, Wake Forest, NC- I’ve never lived anywhere more than a few years.
Major: Psychology

What is your favorite sport?
Anything I can actually Play, but golf is probably my favorite. Im also a Cheerleader here at State, so I’m a bit partial to cheeleading as well.

What is your favorite thing about NCSU?
The Ice Cream in D.H. Hill. Good God that stuff is addicting!

What is one thing you would change about your time at NCSU?
I would have focused more on school my Sophmore year. I have a lot a great memories but I could have balanced my time more effectively.

Tell me about one of your favorite moments at NCSU, one that stands out, for whatever reason:

Freshman year, 2008, on Halloween my two new best friends and I were on our way back from a Halloween party and we walked all the way from Varsity parking lot to Owen Hall. On the way back we sung one of our favorite songs at the time, Colt 45, and we got it on film. It was a time when everything was new, our futures were completely ahead of us. We were still freshmen and weren’t concerned with being very responsible yet, and life was absolutely fantstic there with my new friends. I’ll always remember our singing and screaming through those parking lots.

What is one of your pet peeves?
People who expect favors from you because they believe they just deserve it. I will gladly help anyone, especially my friends and family, but even those outside of that circle I try to help if possible. Life is about giving. However, if someone demands my help or “tells” me to help them, i’ll probably correct their persepctive on my actions before I help them out.

Do you have any secret talents?
I can actually sing really well, and I play guitar a bit. However, I’m shy about doing both in front of other people….I think its because singing feels so good, I don’t want to ruin it by having to be concerned with other peoples value of my singing.

Are you single or taken, looking?
I’m single and ready to mingle.

What was your best Christmas present?
Hands down, my first bike I got when I was five. It was green, orange and blue, and had great big training wheels. Boy did I love that thing! I woke up at like two in the morning and snuck into the living room to see if Santa had brought it. I think I woke everyone up at around 6 o’clock that morning because I couldn’t wait any longer. My poor family!!

What did you enjoy doing most over the holidays?
Playing cards with my grandma and aunt when the power went out because of the snow. My grandmother and I always play Canasta when I go over to her house. This time my aunt played with us, and Mema (my grandmother) and I finally realized just how intense we get over these games. After years of playing together we don’t mind yelling at each other and we both have little tricks that we use each time to psych the other person out. My aunt was like, “dear God you people need some help! Its just a card game!” But really I think we might just join a league or something.

Also, a friend of my mother let my little brother and I borrow her family’s Wii for a week or so over the break. My brother and I played that thing like crazy! He is six years old and it was really a great avenue for me to recconect with him and build trust again, since it had been a few months since we had seen each other. Children’s innocence is something that is beautiful to experience.

What is your new years resolution if you have one?
To stop worrying about what other people think and be myself for better or worse.

What do you want to do with your degree once you get out of school?
I’m doing the Applied Psych program and I am doing a sales intership this summer along with another internship in the fall with a law firm. I wouldn’t be surprised if I become a professional negotiator. I connect well and easily with other people and have a tendency to understand peoples motives and intentions. So make millions in sales and motivational speaking, or make millions negotiating, or who knows what else may be in store for me. I know if I focus on a day at a time, fullfill that days responsibilities and give as much as possible to all those around me, my life will work out beautifully.
