5 Easy (and Spooktastic) Halloween Decorations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.

It’s that time of year again, when all the skeletons and ghosts come out to play. I know for many students, Halloween is our favorite holiday, and lucky for us, we can stretch the celebrations into an entire month!

So now that October has begun, we can finally start planning for that fun day when we can become anyone, or anything, we want. But that also means there are parties to plan, costumes to design, scary events to attend, and dorms to decorate. So, every weekin October, we’ll be giving you our tips to have a fun, cheap, and totally memorable Halloween!

The best way to kick off the month long celebration is to make your dorm look festive. So feel free to go crazy with these 5 fun (and maybe a little scary) Halloween ideas.

1. Spider Webs
One of the easiest ways to decorate your dorm door is to cover the corners with the stretchy, spooky webs. For a little extra fun, add a few plastic spiders.

2. Spooky Messages
If you have a white board on your door, be sure to write a festive message to get everyone in the mood. If you don’t have a white board, put up a blank piece of pape! Write a sentence or two on it that could start off a scary story. Then tell your hall/suite mates to continue the story. Some ways to start are: “They always tell you not to go into the woods alone at night, but only Little Timmy knows the real reason why…” or “It was a dark, cloudy Halloween night, and at the kids were running around the streets. Everyone, that is, except for Sarah…”

3. Creepy Cut-Outs

Ok, so maybe they seem more “cute” than anything else, but printing out some pictures  of jack-o-lanterns and skeletons and putting them on your door can really add some Halloween spirit.

4. Do Not Enter
If you manage to get your hands on some “Caution” or “Do Not Enter” tape, it can add a great touch to the entrance door to your hall or suite.

5. Witches, Bats, Spiders and Cats
For those who like to get a bit more creative, there are always great origami designs to decorate your door and room with. Try hanging some bats and ghosts from the top of your door with fishing wire or a white string, and check out these other great designs: http://www.origami-resource-center.com/halloween-origami.html

Now we get it, there are a lot of decoration restrictions when you live in a dorm, but these 5 easy ideas will get you in the Halloween mood while also keeping you bffs with your RA.

Hey ladies! I'm a junior at NCSU, but it's my first year on campus so I still have that freshman feel. I'm an English major going into journalism, and I'm super excited to be writing for HerCampus.
