Elizabeth Izzo ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Name: Elizabeth Izzo

Year: Senior

Major: Creative advertising with a design specialization

Hometown: New Berlin, WI

Job: Student Assistant at the MSU Men’s Basketball Office

Are you related to Tom Izzo? I am! My dad and Coach are cousins.

Job Duties: During the week I’m in the front office handling secretarial work like answering phones, checking email, and talking with visitors. In addition to these daily tasks, I also keep our recruiting database up to date, give tours of our facilities, and work office events like Midnight Madness, football tailgates and player family dinners. I’ve had a lot of incredible opportunities like getting invited to the Big Ten Tournament and getting to interact with alumni. One of my favorite things about my job is getting to interact with our players’ families. There are six other girls who have the same position in the office that I do, and each year we adopt a couple player families for the season. We introduce ourselves at the beginning of the year and become a contact in the office for parents to reach out to throughout the season. We get to see them at events and home games and by the end of the season everyone feels like family.

Dream job: I want to do something with photography, and I would love to be able to do something to help people. I’m not sure how those two things coincide, but hopefully one day I’ll figure it out.

Life’s Passion: I have the tendency to be passionate about everything; I’m very rarely indifferent. That being said, I think it’s terribly important that people become comfortable talking about mental illness. Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, there are so many illnesses that are continuing to become more and more prevalent among the population, and it seems that the only time we really talk about any of them is after they’ve taken someone’s life. It’s not okay, and it needs to change.

Spartan Bucket List: Since my freshman year, I have wanted to paint the Rock. I’ve got a few months left to get it done!
