Local Montreal: Top 3 Coffee Shops for Studying

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

Dear HC Reader,

Welcome to our new regular blog feature, Local Montreal, where you can find out the best and hottest places in our city (and on campus). The writers of this blog will scout out a number of excellent places in the city and deliver them up in short, easy-to-digest articles. Some upcoming topics include:

  • The Best Coffee Shops for Studying (see below)
  • Montreal’s Best Parks for Summer Reading
  • The Best Places to Enjoy a Picnic

… other topics are classified information which will be divulged as we go, so make sure to stop by regularly. Now, let’s begin.

Montreal’s 3 Best Coffee Shops for Studying

In no particular order, here they are:

1.  Java U: With a number of locations throughout the city, Java U offers great food and coffee. Though the prices are not cheap (lunch will cost you about $13 including a drink, sandwich and side), the music and ambience is great for studying. Regular clients include Montreal businesspeople lunching and students camped out on their laptops. The décor is calming and will not distract you; neither will the music.

2. Café Neve: This Plateau-situated café offers delicious fare and a calming study environment. Lunch here is great and they have the world’s best chocolate-chip cookies. Find Neve at 151 Rachel Street East. See the interior below.

3. Café Santropol: Epic sandwiches and a quirky atmosphere will delight. Try one of the (weird-sounding, but delicious) sandwich combinations, including the Sweet Root with grated carrots, raisins, coriander, nuts, eggless mayo and fresh apple slices. Santropol also has great coffee and other speciality drinks. In fact, they sell their coffee for use in other cafés. Study among ecletic art, which changes on a regular basis. During the warmer months, Santropol has a great outdoor courtyard.

Yum! This photo shows one of Santropol’s massive, and delectable, sandwiches.

Happy studies, McGill collegiettes™!
