Best Dorms on Campus!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

One of the most exciting parts of going to college is decorating one’s dorm space! Choosing wall décor, cute bedding, and comfy pillows are all important components of making a white dorm room feel like home.  A few students below volunteered to show off their interior design skills.

Kelly

Freshman Kelly Gesswein appropriately decked her room out in pink and Maryland!  She wanted her space to reflect her personality. “My inspiration was Maryland, princesses, pink, and my dachshund! I put my bed on risers because it adds tons of storage space! And I have a pillow topper on my bed so its not just the mattress they give you. I wanted everywhere I looked to be fun and make me happy!”
Kelly’s bed has Cinderella and Belle on her blanket! Her rug on the floor even matches! Kelly’s bed is adorned with several animal print throw pillows! If you look closely, you can see the Disney theme repeated around the room.  You can also see cutouts of her favorite football players on the back of her desk and that awesome Maryland pride flag on the wall too!

Daniella and Debi
Roommates Daniella Berger and Debi Goldschlag moved in with each other this semester but their décor easily looks like they spent hours coordinating everything!  These girls love their room and are great roommates with common decorating tastes. It’s truly an original!

Daniella, who is a freshman history major, wanted her area to be colorful and welcoming.  An Israeli flag is the centerpiece above her bed as well as photos of friends. “I used my own artwork to make my space feel more special and personal,” she said of the wall above her headboard. She also made use of command hooks to hang purses and towels.
Debi is a sophomore Supply Management major.  “I wanted to create a comfortable and homey environment that would function as a place to sleep, study, and hang out,” Debi said. She added a quirky pink cell phone chair to add more seating to the room.    For storage, she placed colorful plastic boxes under her bed.  Her walls are decorated with photos of friends and dry-erase circles for reminders.

Both girls are fans of wall stickers, which are cheap and easy ways to decorate! They are also huge fans of pillows! Also, since both girl’s bedding has green in it, a green shag rug connects the two spaces into one cohesive look!  For future roommates who can’t settle on a color scheme, try to choose one color you can agree on, and have it reflected around the room. For example, Daniella chose green, purple and orange bedding, but Debi chose green, blue, and purple!

Nkongho

Sophomore Journalism major Nkongho Beteck’s dorm room is all about inspiration and positive thoughts. Her room is happy and sophisticated at the same time.  “I feel that I am a visual learner and having bright and colorful things on my wall, along with the word “smile” would remind me to strive to be positive and comfortable in my own room.  This looks like a great space to unwind at the end of the day.  The pillows make the bed look so welcoming and can also make Nkongho’s bed function as a sofa too! Nkongho has also mastered the art of pattern play with her floral blanket, and her swirly and diamonded pillows with colors that brings everything together.
