5 DIY Halloween Costumes on a College Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

It’s finally October, and that means Halloween is right around the corner. Whether you’ve been excited for months or have to throw together a costume at the last minute, check out this guide to DIY costumes on a college budget!

Nothing says ‘out of this world’ like a stellar alien babe. You now have an excuse to pull out those galaxy leggings and metallic crop top from the back of your drawers. Find some body glitter that matches your galaxy wear, throw your hair into double buns and you’re set.

‘I ain’t sayin’ she a gold digga’ but this Halloween you can be. Throw on any gold you own and carry around a mini shovel to complete this simple DIY gold digger costume. Get your boyfriend or guy friends involved by dressing them up as your ‘sugar daddy’.

You won’t have to hold your breath with this easy DIY costume. All you need to complete this fun scuba look is all black attire, a make-shift scuba tank made out of two spray painted soda bottles and black tape and any old swim goggles for that extra touch. This costume could also be created on colder campuses with leggings and a black Under Amour top.

This cute and unique costume is perfect for showing your quirky side this Halloween. Start by gluing white and pink ears onto your white headband. For the horn, form a cone out of sturdy gold or silver paper then wrap a piece of gold string up to the tip. Glue this to your headband, put on any white dress and slay your Halloween. (Bonus points for using glitter)

One, two, buckle my shoe. Trade in the typical school girl costume for this adorable toddler costume. Any baby doll dress will work perfectly layered over a white short sleeve with rolled down socks. Don’t forget to add a big bow or a fluffy scrunchy.
