Cute Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Whether you like it or not, Valentine’s Day is coming up. A lot of people tend to stress out about this Hallmark holiday because they don’t know what to get their boyfriend or girlfriend as a gift. It’s pretty easy to get sick and tired of the cliché date of dinner and a movie. So, if you are looking for original ways to show your love and appreciation without spending a ton of money, check out these cute ways to celebrate the special day with your significant other!

1.  Make them dinner. Making reservations to go out to eat at a fancy restaurant is overrated. Cooking a homemade meal for your significant other is much more personal and meaningful. Plus, they will definitely appreciate all of the effort it took to prepare.

2.  Homemade gifts. If you’re on a budget and don’t know what to give as a gift for Valentine’s Day, make a homemade gift! Homemade gifts are a great way of showing/telling someone how you really feel about them and how much they mean to you. You could pour your heart out by writing letters, giving them a box filled with reasons you love them, baking a decorative cake or cookies, etc.

3.  Go on a scenic road trip. If you are looking to get away for the night or even just a couple of hours with your S.O., you could find a scenic route to take and just drive! Maybe make a C.D. or playlist full of all of your guys’ favorite songs and just enjoy each other’s company!

4.  Go ice-skating. Ice-skating is the perfect Valentine’s Day date idea because it won’t cost you a fortune and it’s also the perfect excuse to hold hands!

5.  Build a fort and have an indoor picnic. Building a fort may not sound like anything special but it can actually be really romantic. You and your S.O. can decorate it however you like, pop in a movie and order a pizza! It’s simple yet romantic at the same time.
