What To Wear: Homecoming Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Howard chapter.

As students often find out, there are many underlying rules at Howard University. One of these rules includes certain secret dress codes for homecoming events. Ladies, please get your outfits ready for one of the greatest homecomings in the U.S!

There are particular events that do not require clothing choice of much thought. Events such as the comedy show, gospel show, step show, poetry show, etc. simply require that bison dress for comfort, as the stars of the show will take care of the rest. Normal day-to-day school attire will suffice for these shows.

The fashion events consist of Fashion Show I & II. While Fashion Show I calls for a more casual outfit, Fashion Show II entails that you don your most chic casual outfits. You are a fashionista, which is why you are attending the show, so show off your best creation! After all, who said dressing up for the fashion show is just for the models?

Yardfest is an event during homecoming where a huge stage is set up on the Howard University yard. Various celebrities perform their songs, eventually leading up to the headlining celebrity. People from all over D.C come to attend this event, which is reason enough to construct your most perfect dressy casual outfit. Class is out and sexiness is in.

Next, one has to prepare for the Howard Homecoming Game, one of the biggest games of the year! Because of the emphasis placed on the game, celebrities and alumni from far and wide come out to support our players. Therefore, any Howard paraphernalia is welcome! This game is a way to showcase all the pride that you have for your school. Being one of the best games of year, that expensive t-shirt or sweatshirt that you bought at the bookstore, or otherwise, should get its use!

Lastly, the most important thing that you can wear for homecoming is a fun attitude. Pretty clothes and makeup will get one nowhere without the idea that there are good times to be had. So gather your cute outfits and your best attitudes and go have some fun. Welcome to Homecoming 2011!
