Theatre Thursday: Spring 2016 at Hofstra

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.
This spring at Hofstra marks the 67th year that Hofstra will host a Shakespeare festival! Hofstra University’s Annual Shakespeare Festival began in 1950 and in it’s time has presented a varied selection of the plays of William Shakespeare, lesser-known short plays from the period, and musicales. Each year a different piece is performed on the main stage, representing one of 26 plays of the Shakespearean canon presented at the festival and another does a few performances at Hofstra and tours, performing at many local high schools. This year’s shows are As You Like It, The Play’s The Thing: A One Hour Hamlet, and the Collegium Musicum Love Is Merely A Madness. After the Shakespeare Festival, we have the Hofstra University Department of Drama and Dance mainstage play. This year’s play is Peer Gynt. The faculty choreographed Dance concert is next, followed by the Student Rep Festival, an assortment of student-produced festival of one-hour plays, musicals, and dance shows.
