Outfit Ideas for Weird Warm and Cold Weather Days

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Cuddling up in an oversized sweater was fun for the first few weeks of winter but as spring approaches, shorts and sundresses seem more and more appealing. Unfortunately for us, Mother Nature is having a really hard time letting go of the cold while still teasing us with spring weather. This, in turn, leaves us all confused as we stare blankly at our closets in the morning, wondering what to wear. How do you dress when the weather can change on a dime? Here are some outfit ideas for those days when nature does its craziest!

You can never go wrong with the basics! A girl-cut short-sleeved t-shirt can be mixed-and-matched for any season. Pair it with your favorite jeans and a scarf and finish it off with a pair of cute boots.

Waiting for the perfect time to break out that cute sundress you bought last year? Here’s your chance — just slip a cardigan over it! Let the temperature decide whether you wear a long-sleeved or short, waist-length or cropped, buttoned up or open. Dress it down with combat boots or Vans.

Introducing Flannel: your new best friend for this awkward in-between weather. Topping off a pair of leggings with a lightweight flannel gives you room to adjust for whatever Mother Nature has in store. Is it on the warmer side today? Roll up the sleeves and break out the low-cut shoes. Airing on the side of chilly-ish? Bring back the boots and maybe even sport a cozy scarf.

Remember those basics we talked about? How about pairing a solid t-shirt or tank top with an oversized sweater. Cuff your jeans and sport some low-cut Converse or Vans so that you don’t look too bundled up!

There’s no better time for skirts to make an appearance than early spring. Pair your favorite skater skirt with a fitted, long sleeved shirt. It can be a t-shirt, sweater, flannel, your choice. Dress this look up with a belt and heeled booties or rock a flat shoe if you’re going for a more casual look.

Sweaters are a staple in the winter but it’s not too late in spring to get a few more wears out of them before you fully switch to sundresses. An open-stitch knit sweater with jeans and Sperry’s is a cute way to inch towards that summer feel while still staying cozy and warm.

Liking the tank top and cardigan option but looking for a way to dress it up? Try sporting a blouse with a trendy leather jacket and some skinny jeans. The jacket has a way of making everything look classier. And this combo gives you the perfect chance to pull out some lace up boots or peep-toe heels!

Sport (literally) some cute gym clothes around campus. I know it sounds crazy, but not only are long-sleeve thermal pullovers and coordinating leggings a cute match, you also don’t have to rush back to the dorm before you head over to the gym. Workout clothes are also way more comfortable than jeans if you have an exam or a long class.

Another way to preview some of those summer dresses on chilly days is to wear them with opaque tights and an oversized infinity scarf. A solid-colored bodycon dress with black tights and a matching knit scarf will let you look perfectly put-together without being out of season. Thigh-high or lace up boots are a staple here as well. And if you’re looking for something even more edgy? Top it all off with a leather or denim jacket and a spunky fedora.

Enjoy the crazy weather, babes! Stay warm out there, or cool — whichever Mother Nature decides.
