MAJOR: JOURNALISM

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

“I am from Baltimore, Maryland, about 30 minutes away from the city.”

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HOFSTRA?

“Truthfully, I heard about it from the millions of letters that they sent me and millions of emails. I want to say the biggest reason that I applied was because I think they gave me a free application, and I had heard about it from a couple of counselors at my school. It really isn’t that far for me, so because it was within distance I was able to look into the area.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A HOFSTRA STUDENT?

“I love the community here. I love feeling like I can walk on campus and see at least one person I know every single day. I enjoy that my professors know who I am, know my name, are willing to meet with me outside of class, answer my emails, help me with registration, and things like that. Just the opportunities that Hofstra has given me, I never thought that as a sophomore I would be on the Editorial Board of my school newspaper, but I am and it’s an incredible experience.”

WHAT ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ON CAMPUS?

“The first thing I got involved in was club lacrosse, and I started that pretty much the day I walked on campus. About a week later, I got involved with The Chronicle and I am a news writer and assistant copy editor. I am starting the radio training class at WRHU, and I am also a new member of Zeta Phi Eta, so I am currently going through that process.”

WHAT INTERNSHIPS HAVE YOU HAD?

“My senior year of high school I interned at ABC-2, it’s the ABC affiliate of Baltimore, and I was a teen reporter there. Then I have also been with College Lifestyles, which is similar to Her Campus. It is an online magazine based for teens from about the age of 16-25, primarily a female audience, (although we do have male interns) and I have been with them since the spring of 2014.”

WHAT IS THE MOST STRESSFUL THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE WORKING AT THE CHRONICLE?

“I mean, tons of stressful things happen. We make mistakes. We spell names wrong. We had an article about the new Provost published and her name was spelled wrong, and that made it through about 3 people before it got published. There was one night last year and I was copyediting and Editorials came up to me and needed a piece and they needed it right then. It was probably 10:30 at night the night before we went to press, and I was writing an article to go in the paper the next day.”

WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE DREAM JOB?

“I change my mind everyday. I mean, sometimes I want to be a teacher, sometimes I want to be a journalist, and sometimes I want to write a novel. But in terms of journalism because that has been my passion for a really long time, I really want to be an editor. I don’t know what it is about grammar and editing articles and doing all of that that is really thrilling to me. And also editors do a lot of writing themselves, and a lot of people don’t know that.”
