“Lipstick hoarding is a real problem folks.”

Jessica: Why do you love wearing lipstick?

Emily: My sophomore year here at Hofstra I got super into makeup. That’s when the craziness started. I tried everything, but rocking lipstick made me feel put together, confident, and bold in a subtle-ish way that nothing else in the makeup world did. I’ve always been kind of…risky with what I choose to wear – whether it’s clothes or makeup. I wear what makes me feel good without worrying what others may think. I love wearing lipstick because its a simple way to add an awesome twist to any outfit. It can be daring, but it can also be a perfect finishing touch to tie everything together.

JH: What shade is your favorite?

ED: Oh that’s super tough. I would have to say Lumière by Colourpop. The photo does not give it justice at all. It’s more of a mauve color. I love them all so much for different reasons, but Lumière is my go-to color in any situation. The color is perfect for my skin tone, it smells like vanilla, the formula lasts while still being comfortable to wear, and it was only five dollars! You cannot beat that.

JH: What’s your favorite lipstick brand?

ED: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are amazing. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to put it on in the morning and not have to worry like crazy about it all day, but they’re an investment. If you don’t like liquid lipsticks than I would go for Colourpop or NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. They’re affordable and great quality.

JH: Any advice for someone who is nervous about rocking bold lipstick shades?

ED: Do it for you and wear it with confidence. Find the shades that work best for your look and skin tone and nothing can bring you down. Also, definitely take your time in applying— lip liner and a magnifying mirror are your best friends!
