How to Celebrate Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

In the immortal words of Leslie Knope, “Hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses. Ovaries before brovaries.” This February 13th get together with your ladies (No Boys Allowed) for the most important holiday of the year. Use some of these ideas for a Galentine’s Day celebration to remember. I mean your best lady-friends and breakfast foods! What’s not to love!?!

The Invitations – Do away with the overdone and ignored Facebook invite. DIY some cute cards and write out your invites for a one-of-a-kind personal statement.

The Activities – Go out for breakfast, watch romcoms, get mani-pedis, bake some sweet treats, and just spend time together. My friends and I did Galentine’s Day brunch last year at Denny’s. It was crazy fun just to be together. Also breakfast food. Breakfast food is great. Host a party in your dorm kitchen and bake with your BFFs. Then take all the delicious treats you just made and eat it while watching one of the Galentine’s Parks and Rec episodes (S02 E16 and S04 E14), the adorable movie Valentine’s Day, or another fun movie with your gals. (I recommend The To-Do List starring Aubrey Plaza.)

Gifts – Make some adorable crafty gifts or get something cute to show your friends that you love them. You don’t have to go as all out as Leslie Knope. Some cute ideas could be a nice wood-craft from Michael’s, friendship rings from Etsy, or be like Leslie Knope and needlepoint your friends pillows with their faces on them. Also be sure to print out some nice compliment cards!

And, if you’re old enough, embrace the Galentine’s drinking game:

I'm a senior Theatre Arts Production major at Hofstra University. I'm almost always at rehearsal, reading plays, seeing plays, blogging about plays, or fangirling over plays. My likes include giraffes, Britney Spears, American history and coffee.
