Nina Yancy, Class of 2013
If you haven’t already run into Nina Yancy around campus, that would be quite a surprise. She is one incredibly involved girl with the commitment and attitude of only the most chipper and spunky. She is constantly on the move between classes, clubs, and rehearsals, but always find time for the important things in life. I could rave about her all day or you can just hear it straight from Nina herself. Enjoy!
1. Tell us a little about yourself -- where are you from, what do you study, and what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am originally from Dallas, TX, though my family moved to Chicago, IL just last month (but I don't associate with being from Chicago just yet!) In school I am concentrating in Social Studies with a focus in Public Health and Health Policy. When I’m free, I love to spend my time DANCING, listening to music, stopping for ice cream, dining on sushi, hitting up Broadway, and playing volleyball. I am interested in all types of art really!
2. What are some of the extracurricular activities are you involved with on campus right now?
Peer Advising Fellows, Expressions Dance Company, CityStep, and Eleganza
3. What is one of your favorite Harvard groups that you participate in and what is most rewarding about being a member?
CityStep! We teach dance classes to kids in the Cambridge Public School system- I have spent this year teaching a class of 6th graders from the Amigos School. Our end-of-the-year show is this weekend (along with Eleganza haha...lots of fun running around for me!) At this performance the kids get a chance to show their parents and friends the dances they have been working on all year. It's an amazing program that does so much to promote the arts in the public school system and give a lot of kids an exposure to dance that they would never have an opportunity to get otherwise. Definitely one of the most rewarding things I do on campus.
4. What are your plans for this summer?
This summer I will be working as an intern at CNN's "State of the Union" with Candy Crowley in Washington DC!
5. Do you have any prospective plans for after graduation? (for example, a dream-job?)
Dream job?!! Broadway star, perhaps, though that would require more singing abilities than I possess...
As far as more realistic career plans, I'd like to work in health policy to some extent: either as an associate at a research think tank, a consultant for a not-for-profit health-oriented company, or a policy expert for a branch of the federal government that addresses health care.
6. How excited are you for Eleganza this year? What can we expect to see in this year's show that is different from last year?
I am so excited! I think the show will be better than ever- each year the show has a different theme. Last year, for example, the show's theme was "The Life of a Star" and had three scenes based on the rise, peak, and fall of a celebrity in the public eye. The theme for this year's show will be a surprise, but expect a fun and entertaining new story line!

we don't have journalism here as a concentration.
How did she get a CNN
How did she get a CNN Internship, when she is not even a journalism major?
Wow! SHe must have done her research well.
If you ever find out the answer to my question, please share!
