One thing that tends to always surprise people about me is that I listen to screamo music and enjoy it. The stigma around music that has screamed lyrics in it is that it has to always do with either violence or rage or just does not make any sense at all. I’m here to prove that statement wrong and prove that all types of music have something of value to offer. Without further ado, here are eight deep lyrics from some of my favorite screamo/post-hardcore/pop-punk songs:

On making a bigger impact on the world:

“I realize I constantly overlook the impact I’ve made

Maybe I’m longing to change my own face

To make you proud, I wanna make you proud

When you’re looking down on me”

Disappear [Remember When] by Issues

“I’m not afraid of anything,

I’ve got the whole world in front of me.”

All I Want by A Day To Remember

“If all we are is just machines, then we must be the cogs,

Inside the wheels of change.”

Machines by Crown the Empire

On caring about others:

“How many times do I have to mention?

The scars and the imperfections are what make me want you more.”

Under Wraps by Ghost Town

“If I were you I’d put that away

See, you’re just wasted

And thinking ’bout the past again

Darling, you’ll be okay”

Hold On Till May by Pierce the Veil

On finding yourself:

“In a way we are all connected,

threaded together.

In a way we are all suspended,

bound going nowhere.”

Introduced Species by Hands Like Houses

“Things aren’t the way they were before

You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore

Not that you knew me back then”

In The End by Linkin Park

“I’m learning to walk again

I believe I’ve waited long enough”

Walk by Foo Fighters
