10 Annoying Things Only GSU Students Understand

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

We, Georgia State University students, will happily tell you how much we love our school. We’re in the middle of the beautiful city of Atlanta, rappers love mentioning us in songs, and our Men’s Basketball team is the best in the state. However, there are times when things regarding our school can get very annoying. We know our fellow Panthers will understand these top ten annoying things we have to deal with as a GSU student.

1. The Southern Rivalry. Georgia Southern likes to say they are #TheRealGSU, but we all know the real GSU is Georgia STATE University. Our Basketball team won the Sun Belt Championship over you, we are actually located in the city of Atlanta (not in nowhere land called Statesboro), and when you type www.gsu.edu, it will direct you to Georgia State. Stop trying to fight with us, we will always prove you wrong.

2. Always having problems with Catchat2x Wifi. Simply put, the wifi is horrible in certain areas on campus. It’s 2015, our student population is growing more and more each year, we are a commuter school with students that have all types of technologies with them, and we can’t get anything done without service or the internet. We need the wifi! The system definitely needs to be updated as soon as possible. Thanks.

3. Walking to Aderhold. After that one class you are scheduled to have in Aderhold for a semester, you will try your hardest to avoid having another class in that building for the rest of your college career. Aderhold is one of the class buildings located further away from the main campus and is about a five-minute walk to get to. Make sure you’re not in a hurry, or you will find yourself getting a quick workout while trying to get to class. It is especially miserable during the winter and rainy days.

4. Trying to get through Plaza on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you’re not one to stand around in the courtyard on plaza days, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12:15-1:00 p.m., the walk-through can be very annoying. As you’re trying to get to class, you find yourself being stuck in traffic and feeling as if you’re in a maze walking through plaza. There are people everywhere trying to see what’s happening that day, and most likely they do not know how to move out of the way. If you know plaza will be packed, go a different way.

5. Party promoters and their party flyers. Another annoying reason to avoid plaza is to avoid the promoters who hassle you to take their flyers for whatever party is coming up. They have now disregarded the polite “no, thank you” and will try their hardest to put the flyer in your hand, your face, your pocket, your hoodie, your purse, etc. Beware.

6. Freshmen. We love the freshmen students that will become great Panthers and continue GSU traditions, but there are some who are just too eager to party, be seen, and those who do not know how to act with the freedom of being in college. Settle down.

7. Finding an available computer in the library. We all have had those days where we procrastinate a homework assignment or a paper and are in need of a computer. If you are using a computer to watch Netflix, YouTube videos, and other non-school-worthy things, please move.

8. The Shuttles take forever. We don’t mean to be rude at all, but some shuttle lines will take longer than 15 minutes to arrive when you have to get somewhere or are ready to go home. Especially trying to get to Turner Field at night; it is dark, please hurry.

9. Saxby’s Coffee line. Be prepared to be late for class if you’re waiting in line at Saxby’s in the afternoon. It’ll take a minute or thirty. Try going to the basement Starbucks in Kell Hall if you can deal with simple selections for the time being.

10. Classes that are basically a semester group project. Professors. Please. Stop. Doing. This. We don’t like group work!
