Election: Aftermath

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

In all honesty, this election has got everyone tired, overwhelmed and irritated. When Donald Trump was announced as the 45th president of the United States, you could feel the world freeze up in a state of shock. This isn’t what we planned for. All the incredibly racist, sexist and discriminatory things that has come out of this man mouth and now we have to call him “Mr. President”.

What is really sad is the reality that people have had to face the day after.  You have people planning to move to different countries to stray away from the issues Social media is full of tweets and post of people enduring some of the painful days of their lives. From Kindergarteners crying because the other kids are telling them that Donald Trump is going to get them deported back to Africa to a young Muslim woman having her hijab pulled off her head as she walks to class.  All the videos on Instagram and YouTube of people fighting each other because of the racist remarks they had to hear and the F-Donald Trump rallies that we see around the world. It feels like America has lost their mind. Like we are slowly crumbling down and falling from grace (as if we haven’t already).

My biggest fear is that everything that Donald Trump has based his campaign off will come true. From the wall in Mexico, to every male in the world thinking that sexual harassment is a joking manner. I fear that people will base their mindset off his mindset. Although in recent news, he seems to be changing his foundation around and seems to be a nicer person, but I’m not here for the lies. Anyone can go from being a complete jerk to the nicest person in the world on TV.

What was also truly sad was the look on Hillary Clinton’s face when she had to face the world and give that speech after she found out that she lost. You could see in her eyes that she was fighting back tears and trying her very best to accept what the results where and give her fans and followers an honest and heartfelt thank you speech.

So the big question right now is “Where does America go from here?” Only God knows where our lives will be taken, but one thing we do know for sure is that these next four years will be some of the most challenging for everyone. Only time will tell
