The Constant iPhone Love/Hate Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Before reading this article, I think it’s easy to assume that you (yes, you with that guilty look on your face) were on your smartphone either: 1. Checking Instagram 2. hopelessly refreshing Twitter in dire need of some entertainment or 3. Looking on Facebook checking your notif’s and newsfeed seeing what everyone else is up to.

Our generation has become crazily obsessed with our smartphones, and generations below us are participating in the technological movement even more. I remember getting my first phone in the 6th grade. It was a silver flip phone and I was in AWE of its minimal capabilities. Back then, it was a right of passage to receive your first cell phone. However now in the year 2014, kids in the second grade are being given new and improved smartphones just as easily as they are given candy.

There is no doubt that we LOVE our smartphones. They have taken technology above and beyond what has been anticipated and they provide a wealth of information about anyone/anything at virtually any moment. Yet, with love, comes hate too. There are plenty amount of con’s that come along with our devices that drive us crazy!

Here is a list of times where we love ‘em, and others when we don’t:

LOVE: When we break 100 on Instagram.

HATE: When you’re trying to speak and your friend is in another world…

LOVE: Snapping a pic and posting it straight to social media.

HATE: When Siri accidentally goes off in your pocket #thatawkwardmoment

LOVE: Games (aka distractions) right at our fingertips.

HATE: 140 character’s on twitter, really?

LOVE: Music whenever, where ever.

HATE: When it wakes you up in the middle of the night.

LOVE: Seriously what would we do without navigation?

HATE: Cracked screen? It’s the end of the world.
