How to Make the Most of This Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

It’s be a long semester, but the long awaited Thanksgiving Break is finally here! If you’re anything like me, every year I go home, I gorge on delicious food, binge watch Netflix, and come back five pounds heavier. While all of these activities (except maybe the extra weight part) are Thanksgiving necessities, here are some other to-dos to add to your list to help you get the most out of your Thanksgiving break this year:

1. Sleep in

You have no 8:30 classes to wake up for, and no reason to wake up before Thanksgiving dinner. Try to get over the sleep deprivation by getting your recommended eight hours of sleep.

2. Eat good food

You are finally getting a good home cooked meal (that isn’t the DUC), so the only logical approach must be to stock up (literally like a bear going into hibernation). Go ahead and put yourself in a food coma that will last you until Christmas break.

3. Don’t forget about your homework

As much as being lazy for a week and doing absolutely nothing sounds amazing, this break is also the ideal time to get ahead on your essays and studying for the last weeks of school. Instead of saving all your work until the last minute, spend some time each day with your books open in front of you so you can feel somewhat better about having done some homework.

4. Catch up on your Netflix

After you’ve done at least some homework, start catching up on the Netflix shows that have been accumulating since the first week of midterms. PSA: If you still haven’t finished Season 2 of Stranger Things, you should make that a top priority.

5. De-stress and enjoy!

So, now that you’re away from school for the week, try to enjoy your free time and recharge before you come back for the final weeks of the semester.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving, eat lots of food, watch way too much TV, and maybe attempt to be productive as you head wherever you’re going for the holidays.

Karina is a senior majoring in Anthropology and Human Biology at Emory University, currenlty contemplating what to do with her life post-graduation. In her free time she enjoys spending too much time on instagram and pinterest, traveling, eating too much food, watching Indie movies on Netflix, and going to concerts of her favortite punk rock bands. Most likely doing all of this with a cup of coffee in her hand.
