It’s hard to say, but based on the forecast, it seems as though Atlanta has finally decided it’s fall. It’s easy to let the cooler weather bum you out as it means shorts season is coming to a close. However, Atlanta has plenty of fun fall activities to keep your spirits up! Here are a few to get you started—hurry, before the weather gets too cold!

1. Hike Stone Mountain

Every Emory student should climb Stone Mountain at least once during their time here. If you choose the walk-up trail, it’s a fairly easy walk/hike, but if you’re looking for more of a challenge, try one of the longer trails! No matter which one you do, you’ll see beautiful scenery all around you—especially as the leaves begin to change to varying shades of red, orange, and yellow. If you can get up early enough, try hiking to the top to see the sun rise! Click here for more information about Stone Mountain hiking trails.

2. Go apple picking

Apple picking is a classic fall activity. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you’ll get lots of delicious fresh fruit out of it! With all of the apples you’ll have, you’ll be coming up with all kinds of creative ways to eat them. If you need help thinking of some ways to use them, remember that everyone loves homemade apple pie! Click here to find an apple orchard near you at which you can pick your own apples.

3. Carve a pumpkin

There’s no better way to get ready for Halloween than by carving a pumpkin! Put on The Nightmare Before Christmas, lay down a ton of newspaper, grab a carving knife, and get ready to get messy. You could either carve a classic scary or laughing pumpkin or, for the more artistic ones among us, you could try carving an animal or a celebrity into the pumpkin! Sure you could buy your pumpkin from Publix, but wouldn’t it be more fun to go to a pumpkin patch? Click here for a list of pumpkin patches in the area.

4. Walk in Lullwater Park

This one seems like a simple suggestion, but many Emory students overlook how beautiful Lullwater really is. It’s a park, so you can do just about anything: have a picnic, go for a run, throw around a frisbee with friends, etc. Sit here and enjoy the fall weather on our gorgeous campus while it lasts!

5. Spend some time in Little 5 Points

Little 5 Points is known as a very distinctive, eccentric part of Atlanta—if you haven’t spent much time in L5P, now is the time to do so. Grab a burger at The Vortex, look in some of the quirky thrift shops for Halloween costume ideas, and definitely make sure to go to the Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade on Oct. 18! It’s such a unique experience that each year more than 35,000 people show up for this event. Click here for more information about the Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade.

So there you have it! Hopefully these five easy ideas have inspired you to take advantage of everything that Atlanta has to offer during the fall. Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts!
