The Art of Dating Yourself on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

The time has come…Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Yes, that means it is time for our Facebook timelines and Insta feeds to become cluttered with all things pink, sparkly, and dipped in chocolate. Rather than hide away this February 14th, we propose that all of our single ladies wave those weightless ring fingers high and take yourself on a romantic adventure of your own. Ladies, it’s time to master-date (AKA date yo’ self). Here is a list of the best ways to be pampered, spoiled, and loved with the one who knows you best this month:

1. Grab a bottle of bubbly and treat yourself to one of Denver’s most romantic restaurant’s dinners…from the comfort of your own bed. Food delivery apps like Bite Squad and Favor make it possible for you to have a dinner that is classy AF without having to change out of your yoga pants and comfy tee.

2. Bake or buy a sweet treat! Grab a box of brownie mix at the grocery store, or head to Le Bakery Sensual in Capitol Hill where you can get everything from frosted heart-shaped cookies to naughty cupcakes that will have you giggling and savoring every last bite. Even better, bake a Drake cake and feel all the feels while listening to every Drake song ever made.

3. Head west to the mountains and get intimate with nature. Colorado weather is hit or miss in February, but, weather permitting, you can watch the sunrise for free at Red Rocks amphitheater before the rest of the city has even woken up.

4. …or you can sleep in and drink mimosas from the comfort of your bedroom.

5. When in doubt, ask yourself: “What would Beyoncé do?” which will likely lead you to sing Single Ladies at the top of your lungs and buy out your local grocery store’s stock of lemonade.

6. Give love to someone in need! Make you, your local pet adoption clinic, the tutor center down the road or a community safe house feel the Valentine’s Day love by giving them some of your time. You can volunteer, make Valentine’s Day goodie bags, clean out your closet and donate your gently used clothes to a local women’s shelter, or spend time loving on some puppies. 7. Pamper yourself! Stock up on face masks at Urban Outfitters and Lush bath and bubble bombs, grab a bottle of vino, a couple of candles, and a box of macarons and pull a full Blaire Waldorf with an afternoon in the tub.

No matter what you end up doing, dating yourself will lead to a day of love and fun without the stress and expectations that our friends in relationships will be dealing with. So throw on your sweats, turn on Netflix, and get ready for the best date of your life.
