5 Food Trucks You Need To Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

The great thing about going to a city school is that not only are there great places for you to go get food, but sometimes the food comes to you! That’s right, we’re talking about arguably one of the most convenient ideas of all time, food trucks! Who doesn’t love food on wheels? From halal food to cupcake trucks, Philadelphia’s food truck scene is superb. We all have been in a situation where you have a $10 bill in your pocket, but you save it so you can splurge on your favorite food truck on campus. But which one do you choose? Luckily, I love delicious foods so much that I decided to share five of my favorite Philly food trucks.

1. The Mac Mart Cart: Mac n’ cheese is one of America’s favorite dishes, and this truck gives traditional cheesy macaroni goodness a surprising new twist. From seven-cheese macaroni to original mac n’ cheese sandwiches, this truck promises one of the best food experiences you’ll ever have. I recommend trying the Mac Mart and the pesto mac is yummy, too.For updates about the truck’s location, follow the cart’s social media accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

2. El Pilón:There is a reason why the arepa is a staple in Colombian and Venezuelan cuisine! It consists of a corn patty filled with cheese, avocado and chicken salad, black beans and more. El Pilón offers this amazing breakfast (that can be eaten for lunch and dinner, too) and subsequently gives you an authentic taste of a Venezuelan cuisine. The owners are actually from Venezuela! You can also find empanadas, malta, papelón con limón and chicha on the menu, which can make your Venezuelan dining experience even more genuine! I highly recommend the cheese empanadas, and the arepa pepiada. For updates about the truck’s location, follow the cart’s social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.

3. Cheese E. Wagon:This food truck is best for all the cheese lovers out there. Similar to the Mac Mart Cart, Cheese E. Wagon offers a classic dish with a modern spin to it. Their grilled cheese is to die for! I also recommend trying their chicken quesadilla; it’s their best seller. For updates about the truck’s location, follow the cart’s social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.

4. La Dominique Creperie:If you’re looking for a place to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further! La Dominique Creperie offers an amazing selection of crepes that make the perfect after-dinner treat. It also offers some really great savory crepes that are great for lunch or dinner. I recommend the vegetable crepe and the lemon juice crepe is delicious too.For updates about the truck’s location, follow the cart’s location here.

5. Schmear It:This truck is known for its bagels and lox! But you are not limited to just cream cheese and salmon on your bagel. Schmear It offers a wide variety of original bagels and toppings. They do have a fixed menu, but you are also able to make your own bagel and topping combination! Plus, they have good coffee to make your experience even better. I recommend their French toast bagel; it is absolutely scrumptious! For updates about the truck’s location, follow the cart’s social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.

No matter what you are craving, there will always be unique food trucks around. That’s the beauty of college campuses, especially those that are in an urban setting. Additionally, the fact that most food trucks are active on social media makes it super easy to find out exactly when they will be on campus. Remember to save that $10 bill for when your favorite food truck is in town!
