Spring break has come and gone, which means one thing; spring is officially here, even if the weather doesn’t say so. At least it is less than an arms length away. That being said, we should all do ourselves a favor and shed the heavy layers, winter blues and dry skin. Say goodbye to fluorescent lights and hello to the natural sunlight, all while looking refreshed and naturally gorgeous. Read on for how to achieve a spring glow.

1. Trade Formulas

Warm weather means switching foundation formulas from heavy coverage to light.  Think: warm weather, light coverage. Switching to BB/CC Creams or tinted moisturizer mean less clogged pores and no cakey buildup. What you will get is moisturized skin with a pretty dewy effect. As most tinted moisturizers and BB/CC creams contain SPF, you could shave time off your morning routine, as the products are moisturizers, foundation and sun protection all poured into one package.

2. SPF

Speaking of protection, it is important to get into the habit of using foundations with SPF to shield your face from the sun. While even I admit to succumbing to paleness fears, the threat of wrinkles, sun spots and, oh yeah, cancer, should be enough to make you lather up… with a light formula of course. To all spring breakers who did not go somewhere warm and sunny, don’t skimp on the SPF, use bronzer and I promise no one will know the difference.

3. Clean Your Tools

After an excruciating long winter, your brushes have more makeup and germs than the used solo cups lying in fraternity basements. Did I scare some sense into you yet? By washing your tools with mild shampoo or hand soap and warm water, you are preventing breakouts, bacteria, excess oil and ensuring your makeup goes on more smoothly.

4. Exfoliate

Use a gentle scrub to get rid of dead, dry skin cells. Thank you, winter weather. Depending on your skin type choose a formula that will cater to your facial needs whether you have sensitive, acne prone or combination skin. Start this season off with a fresh start and smooth, hydrated skin.

5. DIY Face Masks

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I do not know anyone who wants dry, irritated skin. Blending natural ingredients can result in anything from calming oily skin to creating a healthy glow. Check out Marie Claire’s website page for some ideas on some serious facial R&R.

6. Hydrate!

The benefits of water are endless and you should always be hydrating yourself throughout the day. While this seems obvious, I admit that some days I fall way short of drinking my recommended dose. If you don’t like the idea of drinking plain water, add a lemon, crystal light, drink herbal tea, whatever you need to do to stay hydrated. Besides improving your overall health, water also provides clearer, toned skin. With sundress season upon us, why wouldn’t we want to put our best (and dewiest!) face forward?
