This week’s Campus Cutie is Delta Upsilon’s Little 5 rider, Patrick Nielsen.  He arrived to our interview dressed for the beautiful weekend weather, in a casual tank and shorts.  Ladies, if you’re looking for an easy-going and adventurous guy, you found him.  Catch his eye this week at the races!

HC: Patrick, tell us a little about yourself.

PN: I’m from western Kentucky.  I’m a junior sociology major.  I’m not really involved in too much.  I’m on the exec[utive board] for IMs and for my house.  That’s it.

HC: What is your position on exec?

PN: Treasurer

HC: Do you know what you want to do with your sociology major?

PN: No idea, I wish I knew.

HC: Why sociology?

PN: I took Contemporary Society and I loved it and my professor.  I thought it was cool how I could relate it to a lot of things from back home.

HC: I know you’re riding in Little 5 for Delta Upsilon’s team.  How have you been training?

PN: I usually go to Filmore and come back, or go to the next town over.  We rode a lot over Spring Break and before, so hopefully I’m prepared.

HC: When did you begin training?

PN: January

HC: And have you ridden before this?

PN: No, I have not.

HC: Why did you decide to ride in Little 5 this year?

PN: I guess because I’m pretty competitive and I need something to be competitive about.

HC: What are you doing this summer?

PN: I’m trying to get an internship in Greencastle working at the health clinic, but if not then I’ll go to Maine to be a basketball counselor.

HC: Do you play basketball?

PN: No at DePauw, but outside of DePauw — yeah.

HC: Okay, Campus Cutie, what is the most attractive feature on a girl?

PN: I’d definitely have to say the eyes.  I guess you can tell a lot about somebody through her eyes in my opinion.

HC: What the biggest turn-off?

PN: If they’re really full of themselves.

HC: When it comes to dating at DePauw, can you give our HC readers some advice?

PN: [hesitantly] Just be yourself would be my best piece of advice because, I don’t know, there’s only so long you can try to be something you’re not.

HC: Who’s your celebrity crush?

PN: Kate Beckinsale

HC: What was the first date you had ever been on?

PN: Like middle school date?  I remember I got slapped on my first date.

HC: Rough.  I won’t ask you what happened.  But, if you could take a girl out on the perfect date — no price tag or anything — what would you do?

PN: Well I like going camping, so I’d say we’d go camping somewhere — hike, roast marshmallows, cook something over the fire —

HC: — Look at the stars?

PN: I did take two semesters of astronomy.

HC: What’s something that most people don’t know about you?

Bystander: He likes to cook!

PN: Yes…

HC: What was the last thing you cooked?

PN: The other day I made asparagus wrapped with bacon.

HC: If you were going to make a special someone dinner, what would you make them?

PN: Well, I would hope that she would eat meat, because I can’t really do vegetarian stuff.  But, my mom makes this really good chicken that I could make.  You have to soak it in soy sauce overnight.  But, yeah, it’s really good.

HC: What sides would you make with it?

PN: I don’t know, maybe a salad with sesame dressing or that kind of thing.
