The end of the school year is so exciting when you think about all of your plans after you finish your finals and the stress is over, but don’t forget about packing and moving out.  Moving everything you own can be a real buzz kill, but it can also be fun and easy! Whether you are moving out of the dreaded dorms or moving into an apartment with your BFF, we have a few pointers that will help the process seem painless!

Use Garbage Bags for Hanging Clothes

This was a game changer for me when I learned this moving to and from college. Keep all of your clothes on the hangers but cover groups of them with a garbage bag for quick and easy unpacking.  It also eliminates the number of boxes that you will need (especially if you have an excessive amount of clothes like me!).

Ditch the Apple Boxes

This is super convenient if you are moving into an apartment or house.  Using reusable bins is an easy way to know that everything you own will fit when you move out and you can store them easily in your closet, under your bed or in the attic until you need them again at the end of the year.  For heavy items like books or shoes use rolling suitcases you won’t have to lift heavy boxes!

Purge

Take advantage of spring cleaning and get rid of anything you haven’t used or worn all year.  Cutting down on things you own means fewer things you have to pack. Doing this every time you move will help you learn what you really need to live at school and get ditch any unnecessary junk.

Label Boxes

If you don’t already do this you will thank us later. Labeling your boxes will make unpacking seem like a dream.  This will make it so you can put boxes in the designated areas of your house or help you know where to unpack your stuff into a dorm.  Also, as you are making to move out, don’t forget to pack an overnight bag before you start because it is no fun to have to search for your toothbrush in a pile of boxes your first night in your new place.

Do you have a secret hack that makes moving less painful? Let us know!
