Halloween Nail Themes to Spook Up Your Holiday!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Spice up your Halloween costumes with one of the current hottest trends– nail art! A perfect look for this upcoming Thursday will not be completed without a marvelous mani. Trick or treat with these awesome nail designs:

Black Cats – Halloween’s spirit animal is definitely the kitty. Create a statement nail with a black cat using a Revlon Nail Art Expressionist polish like Silhouette (perhaps you won this polish at the Her Campus Back to School Event like I did!) with a basic black such as NYC’s Black Lace Crème Polish. Begin with the Revlon polish to paint on a base coat and next add glitzy patterns to nails. Then, paint on your black cat. Pair these nails with a cat costume or add some flare to a 1920’s flapper girl.

Bloody Nails – Blood is a major theme for the 31st. Vampires, ghosts, devils, American Horror Story characters, and cereal killers can vamp up costumes with these crazy nails. Put small globs of nail polish on nails and then swirl the polish in different directions with a toothpick over a white base coat. Mix and match reds such as Essie’s Lacquered Up and Twin Sweater Set or OPI’s Bastille My Heart and Malaga Wine over Essie’s classic Marshmallow.

Creepy Eyes — Walking at night and spotting glowing eyes peeking at you is one nightmare we’ve all had. Make a spooky statement with this design and transform your nails into the Pale Man from Pan’s Labyrinth. Paint bloodshot eyeballs, form rounded eyes with lashes, or simply stick googly eyes on your fingertips. Also, use small paint brushes to paint nails and wash them in nail polish remover when finished. These nails can bring unexpected detail to a Cleopatra, goddess, or alien costume.

Ghosts ‘n Ghouls – The classic white sheet can be reinvented on your nails.  Friendly or frightening ghosts can be formed in all shapes and sizes, and ghouls and mummies can be made with differently oriented stripes. You can paint ghosts on classic black base coats or go wild and opt for a striking color base like Essie’s In The Cab-Ana. Adding “Ooo’s” and “Boo” gives the mani a playful touch. Have fun with the undead and pair these nails with a mummy, ghost, ghoul, skeleton, or other Beetlejuice-esque costume.

Pumpkins– Why not wear the quintessential Halloween accessory everyday!? Illustrate pumpkin patches or Jack-O’-Lanterns on your nails with a bright orange such as Essie’s Saturday Disco Fever and different shades of green polish. Small paint brushes will help form squiggly pumpkin vines and complicated Jack-O’-Lantern carvings. Pumpkin art is perfect for the entire Halloween week and matches outfits from witches, headless horsemen, and pumpkins themselves.
