#DailyStruggle: Staying on Campus during Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Barnard chapter.

Spring break is just around the corner and some of us are going to be spending it in NYC…which might come as a disappointment for those of us who were looking forward to lounging on a beach for a week. But let’s not forget an undeniable truth: there’s an amazing opportunity wound up in being young in the most exciting city in the world. HC Columbia loves NYC (and you), so we took the liberty of coming up with something to do everyday from Friday, March 15th all the way until the 24th.

Friday 15th:

>> Kick off your spring break with a crazy night out in Hell’s Kitchen. See KNIFE PARTY (the Australian electro house duo, not, you know, actual knives) in Pacha!! (Doors – 10pm). Looking for tickets: try here

>> Not looking to go cray listening to house? Grab tickets for a musical. At HC Columbia, we’re loving the The Wild Bride, “a stunningly intelligent dance and musical theatre”, according to Variety magazine. According to one Columbia student, it’s “a creepy little fairytale with awesome music.” We’re sold.

Saturday 16th:

>> Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade. According to Party Earth, “The New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade is not only the largest St. Paddy’s parade in the entire world, it’s also the oldest, having been an annual NYC event since the 1760s. As in, since before the U.S. was even a country”.  You gotta love all that history…and all the excellent drinking opportunities that abound. From what we’re told, the infamous NYC St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl never disappoints.

Sunday 17th:

>> Visit the New York Botanical Garden’s 11th Annual Orchid Show sponsored by Tiffany & Co. It’s true: beautiful things do gravitate to one another.

Monday 18th:

>> If you’re in a mood to put on your best dress and go somewhere fantastic (and let’s be real, when are you ever not in that mood), buy tickets to the Eighth Annual Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. National Physician of the Year Awards. The event will take place from 6:30 -10pm at the Pierre (2 East 61st Street). The tickets are a little pricy at $200 a pop but I guess that’s what you sometimes have to pay for networking opportunities.

Tuesday 19th:

>> Every day’s a good day for some sexy time. Visit the Museum of Sex in Chelsea. Make it a girls’ day…or not.

Thursday 21st:

>> Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author will be signing books at Book Revue in Huntington at 7pm. If you’re willing to make the trek, Book Revue is worth it. Long Island’s take on The Strand, Book Revue is a vertiable haven of new, old, out-of-print, and generally awesome books.

Friday 22nd:

>> Start the day at one of these awesomely free museums…

>> …and cap it off with a P!nk concert at Madison Square Garden.

March 23rd:

>> Okay, yeah, we already mentioned the Orchid Show…but this time you can enjoy it cocktail in hand. Take the time to get dressed up with your girls and head to any one of the restaurants with which the New York Botanical Gardens has partnered before getting buzzed in the classiest way possible.

March 24th:

>> If you click here, you can get discounted tickets to see Cirque Du Soleil. Even Florida doesn’t get crazier than those acrobats!

This list is by no means exhaustive, but we hope that it’s been successful in reminding you the best part about being a Columbia student—New York City is just a subway ride away. And remember, only boring people are bored, so we’re sure you know what that means…
