Walgreens: The Destination for On-Campus Beauty

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Chicago chapter.

Walgreens has always been my one stop shop for plenty of things. From shampoo to paper towels to snack foods, Walgreens is basically my key to survival during the school year. It wasn’t until recently, however, that I realized how great of a selection of beauty products the store carries. And high-quality brands for affordable prices at that!

For instance, the new Volum’ Express The Mega Plush mascara by Maybelline with their first gel-mousse formula. I’ve honestly never been a big fan of mascara, just because I’ve never been able to see the difference. But after using this product, my eyelashes are clearly longer and appear more voluminous. Its extra-soft, patented Flexor Brush doesn’t leave my lashes feeling brittle, flaky or clumpy, just light and plush! And I love how much wider it makes my eyes look. It’s safe to say I’m now a huge fan of mascara—particularly this one.

Walgreens also carries a huge selection of Essie nail polishes. I picked up both the Angora Cardi—a creamy, deep dusty rose—and Sand tropez—a soft sandy beige—and tested them out. Both are DBP, toluene and formaldehyde-free. After applying a base coat, it took only two coats of color and then I finished it off with one of Essie’s high performance top coats. I love the rustic feel of both colors and can see them working great for the upcoming fall season.

And lastly, my favorite product I picked up from Walgreens has to be the Colgate Optic White toothpaste. With teeth whitening being so popular, you have to be somewhat skeptical when brands advertise things like “whiter teeth in five days!” But when it comes to this toothpaste—I’m a believer. I tested it out and in a little over a week I already see subtle differences. Colgate Optic White toothpaste contains the same whitening ingredients as strips with a gentler 1% hydrogen peroxide concentration, so it’s safe for your teeth! As a big coffee drinker, my teeth are susceptible to stains. But I think if I keep up with this toothpaste, I’ll have the whitest and brightest smile I’ve ever had.

Those are only a few of the great beauty items Walgreens has to offer. So definitely be sure to check it out (you know we have one on like every other block on Columbia’s campus). You can thank me later!
