Following Up With Campus Celebrity Jessica Sanfilippo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

We love all of our Campus Celebrities! To make sure we keep you in the loop on the awesome things they’re up to, we’ll be checking in with them from time to time.

Jessica Sanfilippo was Her Campus Chatham’s first Celebrity. When we last spoke with Jessica two months into her first year, the award-winning writer already had work published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Kerouac’s Dog Magazine and on the New Slang Literary Magazine website. What’s she up to now?

From Jessica:

“Currently, I am a sophomore pursuing a Women’s Studies major with a minor in Business. I just started my first internship with the Ellis School in Pittsburgh, teaching Ellis girls about activism projects and how they further explore feminism. During my Empowertainment Maymester class last spring, I worked with the same group and the girls are wonderful to work with. I’m excited to hear from a new group, teach them, and have them teach me as well.

“As far as writing goes, I am still submitting to small literary journals but have yet to hear back from any publishers. I continue to write poetry daily and kept a writing class this semester to maintain inspiration.

“I also just recently transitioned from Woodland dorm life to Chatham apartment life and the change is excellent. I deal with more independence than I ever had before, and living right on Fifth Ave. has its perks: Walnut Street is blocks away, the bus is literally across the street, and I have my own bathroom! I encourage all students to consider apartment life after their first year of campus living.”

At the end of our Celebrity profile of Jessica, we mentioned that she was about to be published in Smashed Cat Magazine. You can read her powerful piece, “darkened side”, here.
