Where can we find you on Campus?

When I’m on campus I usually find myself at the River Building, Athletics, or Ollie’s. They make good sammiches.

Do you play any sports/are part of any clubs?

I’m not currently playing any sports. I had originally aspired to play varsity football for Carleton. A major injury last winter has set me back significantly and made me question whether I want to risk the total obliteration of my knee by taking another crack at the gridiron. In preparation for any prospective football career at Carleton I took up powerlifting about three years ago. Though I likely won’t ever play ball again, when I came back from my injury I continued to train hard. Because of the person I am I still needed an athletic and competitive outlet. Weightlifting has become my sport and I’m always pushing myself to be better.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is the significance?

I plan on eventually getting a few. I’ll likely only ever get script tattooed on my body; quotes or phrases that inspire me or always make me question my actions. I’ve yet to decide what I want or where I’d put it. As of right now I don’t have any body art.

What do you find attractive in a partner?

Drive. I find a girl who is motivated and takes pride in the things she does very attractive. I find that when I get close with someone that is always trying to improve their life and grow as a person it challenges me to do the same. That’s another attractive feature in a partner: she challenges me. I like girls who are willing and able to talk about the what if’s. She can’t fear the abstract. When I fall for a girl it’s because of the conversations we have. Naturally, a great sense of humour factors into that. I find wit and confidence extremely charming. Also, if she likes classical cinema and Ernest Hemingway I’m a goner.

Describe what your ideal date would be on Valentine’s day.

I’ve actually never had a Valentine’s date so I have no reference point. Something overblown wouldn’t appeal to me. I’d imagine the hype of the day itself would overshadow any grandiose romantic gesture. I’d probably make her a homemade dinner from scratch, drink some wine, listen to some good music, and watch a Woody Allen movie. A Woody Allen movie would be perfect for a Valentine’s day date. I think.

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

I got stopped by a perfect stranger on campus in mid-Movember this year and she told me that I look very handsome with a moustache. That mojo-pump-up made for a stellar week.

What is a dating deal breaker for you?

Phone addiction. Pointless swearing. Open mouth chewing. “Like.”  Sens fans.

Celebrity crush and why?

Zooey Deschanel. I find her oh-so charming. She’s quirky, she’s goofy, and she’s hilarious. She has a natural, classical beauty. She’s a fantastic singer and Elf is my favourite Christmas movie. And she plays the ukulele.

Favourite fictional character and why?

Luke Skywalker. Like any boy born in the ‘90s Luke inspired me. He made me to want to stand up to the powers of ultimate evil, fly spaceships, save entire galaxies, tame fluffy forests dwarves, and use the force.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I play a lot of guitar. I read. I write a lot of poetry. Sometimes I write the odd short story. I exercise a lot and play sports for fun whenever I can. I really enjoy cooking. By extension I love to eat. I’m constantly researching nutrition and human bio-mechanics. I’m a big-time film nut and I love classical (30’s, 40’s) cinema, as well as foreign filmmaking. My roommates and I usually have two or three television series on the go at any given time. I drink beers and party.

Do you have any notorious pick-up lines?

I don’t have any go-to lines. I’m usually pretty conservative. From time to time a have a few too many at which point I’ll try some pretty brazen pick-up lines. None of which I remember with the utmost clarity.

What’s your philosophy in life?

You have one family; love and support them. You have one mind; explore its limits. You have one body; maximize its potential. Everybody has something to say and they all want to say it; always be ready to listen. Keep learning, keep growing, avoid complacency at all costs. You can always be a better person.
