In just under two months, the insanity of April exams will be over! Although some of you girls will get to escape into the blissful calm of sweet summer, others like me will be getting sucked into the whirlwind of summer employment. Fortunately, summer work can be enjoyable, but finding fun positions can be a job on its own! Luckily for us Carleton girls, our university offers a wide range of employment opportunities right on campus. Start your own job search by checking out these summer vacancies at Carleton! 


1. Summer Orientation Leader
Deadline: March 16th, 2012

Being a Summer Orientation leader involves leading daily orientation sessions for new students and their parents. The Summer Orientation Program is designed to welcome new students to the Carleton community and reassure them of their future academic success. The ideal candidate for the position would have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and they would beextremely knowledgeable concerning what goes on around campus. All majors are welcome to apply!

2. Summer Camp Leader
Deadline: March 16th, 2012

Do you miss the days when summer meant attending fun camps? Do you love sports and kids? Then take part in one of Carleton University’s summer camp programs as part of the staff! The camps are designed for children aged from 7-14, and activities include arts and crafts, European handball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, badminton, basketball, fencing, softball, field hockey, rugby, squash, volleyball and tennis. This job is open to all majors, but is especially designed for students who want to let out their inner child!

3. Aquatics Jobs

“I saved her life, she nearly drowned, He showed off, splashing around. Summer sun, something’s begun, but uh-oh those summer nights!”  Spend your summer splashing around at the Carleton pool with an aquatics job! Applications will be accepted in mid-February, so check out the link below regularly for more information! Also, it is important to note that applicants must have Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, NLS, Standard First Aid ,CPR ‘C’ and AED certifications, and complete a police check.

4.  Residence Summer Program Assistant
Deadline: N/A

If you lived in student res, then you may appreciate this position which was designed to enhance the Residence Life Program at Carleton. The RSP Assistant is responsible “for helping create, develop and implement programs designed to help expand the student experience, with a focus on transition to university life, academics, leadership and residence.” The RSP assistant also gets to participate in the planning of summer and fall orientation, and the IKEA madness event! Please note that it is required for the applicant to have lived in residence for at least a year.

5. Volunteer CU Blogger

If money isn’t an issue and you are just looking for something to occupy your time throughout the summer while gaining some valuable experience, consider being a CU Blogger! Tell the world about your fun experiences as a Carleton student while showcasing your writing skills! Of course, Communications, Journalism and English majors may particularly appreciate this experience, but CU Blogs are useful for documenting what goes on in every campus community, so all majors are welcome!

I know what you’re thinking: we wait all year to get away from school, but realistically, Carleton is an ideal summer employer! Who knows, maybe you will be taking your lunch breaks by the canal in May! Why not work in a familiar environment with beautiful surroundings, where the work is actually fun!
