Brook Masters is a Graduate Resident Director (GRD) here at California Lutheran University. She lives on the first floor of the North Hall with her daughter Jaidyn who still has a couple more years until she can officially call herself a college kid. Unless of course she wants to be an official college kid next year, because she can do anything she puts her mind to if she just believes! But maybe she should just enjoy her years of being a non-college student while she can – it’s a tough world here on campus! The two of them, however, are not on their own. They live with their dog Jolie who is basically a human herself!

You may not know who Jolie is, but take my word for it, she’s one of the best dogs you’ll ever meet! Jolie’s full name is actually La Contessa Jolie, which makes her sound even more like a princess, but everyone just calls her Jolie.

Jolie was born on April 5th, 2009 and she was purchased from a breeder because her lovely owners Brook and Jaidyn, needed a hypoallergenic little ball of cuteness. So yes ladies and gentlemen, even if you do suffer from dog-allergies, you’ll most likely be fine around her! Jolie got her beautiful name from both of her owners. Jaidyn wanted to name her ‘Pretty’, so Brook suggested that they call her that, but in a different language. Jolie means pretty in Spanish.

Jolie’s favorite food is – yeah you guessed it – human food. Some of her favorite things to do include sleeping on freshly washed laundry, chasing the rabbits and squirrels around the courtyard and playing with her toys of whom she does not discriminate against – she loves them all equally!

When asked if Jolie enjoys being a dog, I was informed that Jolie in fact believes that she is a human. Or maybe even a deity, just one that happens to be stuck in a dog’s body.

Jolie understands everything that her owner Brook says to her and her facial expressions communicate her every thought. Among Jolie’s many talents and tricks is her ability to ‘play dead’, but the one thing about her that makes her so dear to people, is the fact that she is an emotional support companion dog. One thing that Jolie would like to let her audience know, is:

“Don’t underestimate the wisdom animals have. Just look into my eyes and you will know that I am a highly evolved being.”
