Contouring: The Right Way

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C Mich chapter.

As I’m sure we have all seen, there are those girls who think they can contour, but really can’t. However, nobody wants to break it to them that they look comparable to a clown.

To help you all avoid this pitiful mistake and save you the embarrassment, I’m going to help provide some advice for how to properly counter your face, as well as where to contour.

Tips:

–       Use a highlighter that is close to your natural complexion, but around a shade or two lighter.

–       Use a primer. This way you wont have to worry about your makeup moving or coming off.

–       Sometimes your fingers are the best tools you have. Although brushes are good for some things, your fingers are best for blending the contouring shade.

–       Only go two shades darker than your natural skin tone for your contouring shade. There is no need to go very dark!

Where to contour:

–       Apply the contouring shade along the sides and tip of your nose, as well at the crease of your eyelids.

–       Use a highlighter under the bridge of your nose, above your cheekbones, along your jawline, and above your lips.

The real key to contouring is learning how to properly blend. In order to achieve the perfect contouring look, it will take some practice! With these tips you should be able to get started on your contouring journey!

Happy contouring!
