Well the Weather Outside is Frightful… No Sh*t

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

To my fellow Bucknellians: it’s that time of year again when the snow is constant, the sun is never present, and everyone seems to be in that never ending winter slump. Getting depressed and bored with awful weather is a guarantee in the Bucknell bubble, but that doesn’t mean that it’s something you can’t prepare for or can’t overcome. Even though you might look out your window every morning praying for a snow day, it’s important to realize that positivity is not a result of your actions, but an emotion that’s in you and that you can find.

If you really, truly, and literally hate the cold, you’re best bet at combating the weather is by bundling up and staying warm. Use it to your advantage by changing up your outfits by adding layers and using scarves.

But hey, that’s not the only way. Snuggle up with a loved one by the fire. But, if you’re like most of us trapped in a dorm room without gothic romantic fireplaces, then no fear because screensavers are here! If you type fireplace screensaver into Google, then you can simply watch a fire crackle away on your laptop for a somewhat more realistic option.

And since the weather prevents Bucknellians from hanging out in the backyards of our favorite downtown houses on Saturdays, don’t use the snow as an excuse to stay in bed all day. You’re only in college once, so take advantage of what it has to offer. Check out the Samek Art Gallery on the top floor of the LC, go to the craft center and check out their weekly classes, try out the rock climbing walls in the gym, or the greenhouse in the O’Leary center.

You might have to go out of your way to make sure you cheer up, but if you’re actively searching for ways to stay warm and happy, you will be happy. Before you even notice it, the spring will slowly (but surely!) arrive, and the sun will be back in no time.
